(CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.
Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.
Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."
"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."
Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.
Keyes' Web site says he is against "the homosexual rights agenda, including same-sex marriage."
Marcel-Keyes grew up in Darnestown, Md., attended a conservative Catholic school for girls in McLean, Va., spent a year in the south of India advocating tribal rights, and plans to attend Brown University this fall, according to an Equality Maryland press release.
Furmansky told CBSNews.com that Marcel-Keyes would not be speaking to the media ahead of Monday's rally, and probably not afterward, either.
Bloggers have identified her Web site as
http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Xmisled0youthX. The author of the blog says it is public and she has nothing to hide.

Just what I thought. You won't quote Keyes but instead you repeat your spin on his words and accuse me of things not in evidence. Between you and the President's sycophantic accusers there is no difference except for the people and the specific issues.
You are one of the most dishonest and hypocritical FReepers since Kevin Curry. Except he genuinely is a conservative. What I said to him is exactly true of you as well.

And, even though we heard Keyes call Mary Cheney a "selfish hedonist," you'll tell us he never said it.That is a lie created out of whole cloth. I never said that or anything resembling that. Lying is selfish hedonism too!

Nobody said he was intolerant; nobody said he was a bigot. A lot of people have said that.
He's a hypocrite.
How so, pray tell?

For the six years I've been on FR, every single word Alan Keyes has said has had to explained to the great unwashed masses.

Who the hell cares what you said to Kevin Curry or what you think of me? I certainly don't.
For a Keyster to accuse someone else of being a sycophant is hilarious.
Do you deny that Keyes referred to Mary Cheney as a "selfish hedonist"?

Keyes did call Mary Cheney a "selfish hedonist" .
That is true.
How tragic his daughter is the same.

Because he AGREED that Mary Cheney was a hedonist while not mentioning that his own daughter was one.
When the reporter asked the question about Mary Cheney, he had the opportunity to do the right thing -- the honorable, courteous, kind hearted thing -- and say something like "I'm not going to get into other family's personal heartbreaks," since he knew full well he had the same problem under his very own roof.
But instead he snatched the opportunity to grab face time by discussing the family of a sitting vice president, a man in his own party.

For the six years I've been on FR, every single word Alan Keyes has said has had to explained to the great unwashed masses. Exactly. Remember when Keyes, here in Dallas, said that Bush was "evil" because of his stem-cell policy?
We were told, and are still told, that Keyes never said any such thing, but, there it was, in black and white. Plus, several FReepers were there and heard him say it.
Former GOP presidential candidate Alan Keyes, speaking at a Republican supporter convention in Dallas-Fort Worth, referred to Bush as an "evil" leader who allows politics to determine policy. "I cannot support leadership that sits in the backroom trying to figure out how much harm can be done without opposition," said Keyes.

I also don't blame him for not mentioning his daughter.
I wouldn't advertise that. Behind the scenes though, I'd do my dammest to stragihten her out. Exodus International has had allot of success getting to the heart of their confused emotional state. It's sad no matter whose daughter or son, it is.

Right on.
I will not feel obliged to give my adult children an allowance. I will however, help support them in an education that will be both enriching and endearing to their future lives. With that in mind, no loving parent would pay to have their children brainwashed, taken away from them, and turned against them.
I applaud Mr. Keyes for making the right, though assuredly difficult decisions.
Sometimes love means having to say no. Unless your a liberal or a three year old, in which case "no" means you don't love me anymore.....
To: Accygirl
Love does not equate to supporting what they do.
Dahmers parents surely loved him, but should they have condoned what he did?
By your methodology they should have.
Sometimes love means saying "that is wrong".
To: MHT
Going to Brown is a red flag that this child has been recruited. Much like Dick Gephardt's daughter, the gay movement probably targeted her and worked at recruiting her. Gephardt's daughter was married to a doctor when she was befriended by a fellow social work graduate student at Wash U who helped her "discover" the "fact" that she was not heterosexual. Tell me this -- if gay people tried to "recruit" you, would you fall for it? I doubt it, and neither would I. My point is that the idea that Maya Keyes, as a college student, was somehow "recruited" into the gay lifestyle is ridiculuous.
To: sinkspur
And still we're expected to believe this claptrap.
