(CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.
Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.
Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."
"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."
Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.
Keyes' Web site says he is against "the homosexual rights agenda, including same-sex marriage."
Marcel-Keyes grew up in Darnestown, Md., attended a conservative Catholic school for girls in McLean, Va., spent a year in the south of India advocating tribal rights, and plans to attend Brown University this fall, according to an Equality Maryland press release.
Furmansky told CBSNews.com that Marcel-Keyes would not be speaking to the media ahead of Monday's rally, and probably not afterward, either.
Bloggers have identified her Web site as
http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Xmisled0youthX. The author of the blog says it is public and she has nothing to hide.

"...her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay" I'm guessing it's not because "she is gay" but because they believe her homosexual behavior is unacceptable.

Isn't that the truth. Somebody ought to ask them that.

I would think that it would be very difficult to come to terms with, but one loves ones children no matter what. After all, God loves us unconditionally. Can we do no less?

But this isn't about Mr. Keyes, it's about his daughter. Is she running for office or something?

It all goes back to teaching children right from wrong BEFORE AGE 10. After that, the foundation will be attacked.

This is so true. After 10 I dont know what to do with them LOL

It wouldn't surprise me if she did. Would it surprise you?

Does God coddle, pamper, and enable you when you make a stupid decision?
We do not "love unconditionally" by encouraging or enabling the loved one to make foolish, destructive decisions.
To: JCEccles
Nope. We sit down and have a talk with our children and tell them what is right and what is wrong. As does God. But we never stop loving them.

I know, I was just being funny. A play on words - "comming out". Used to mean when a (rich) young girl was old enough for dating, parents would throw a big social event party. Still goes on in the South and I'm sure other places too.
To: Goodgirlinred
But the point is, you don't shield them from the consequences of poor decisions, or encourage or enable them to make such decisions.
Sometimes talking (warning) doesn't get the job done. There is such a thing a "tough love" and what it really means is allowing a child (particularly an adult child) to experience the full consequences of a painful decision without interfering, excusing, or minimizing it. The child may think the parent "hates" them for not stepping in, but that's because the child still hasn't crossed the threshhold into accepting full responsibility for their own actions.

Watch over them as a warrior....be prepared to do real, sustained battle with the forces of darkness in high places.
Those aren't just school board members or politicians....many are minions of the dark lord.

The left started with "seminar callers" to get their message on talk radio.
The left now has "seminar posters".
Probably has to do with that little thinktank Pineta is running.

You need to learn what love is. I have a daughter, and I love her and her mother more than I ever thought possible. And I can't think of a single thing she could do that would make me turn her out of my house, cut off all communications with her, and literally divorce her from my family and my life. Certainly nothing as trivial as what Keyes has thrown his daughter out over.

I don't know if you're a Christian. This is not a trivial issue for us.
