gonna sound naive here but,im pretty sure thats how you hang the flag vertical (anyone wanna prove me wrong please do)

The blue field is always to the flag's own right when hanging vertically and on the left of the people facing it.

The field of stars is to be in the upper left corner as facing it per protocol.

Yep, it wrong. The stars should be in the upper left, with the exception of aircraft and battle uniforms that have a flag emblazoned on the right hand side.
They should appear to be flying against the wind or forward.

I think you are right... There should be information about the proper way to vertically display a flag.
