A crowd of 3,000 gay men and lesbians packed into the San Francisco City Hall rotunda on Saturday for a raucous event that became as much a pep rally for the mayor as a commemoration of the same-sex marriages that were performed in the same venue one year ago.
"Happy anniversary," Newsom said to the cheering audience. Unquestionably the star of the party that one celebrant compared to a "family reunion," the mayor was repeatedly drowned out by wild applause during the defiant speech he delivered from the rotunda staircase.
"I've never felt more resolved," Newsom told the crowd. "I don't care what happens to me, I care what happens to you and to this country.
"Don't believe these folks who talk about tradition. They sit there and defend inequality because it's tradition," he went on. "Tradition doesn't make something right.
"Don't give up this fight. Don't feel discouraged. Don't listen to the president of the United States," he said before leading the crowd in a chant of "shame on you."

Reminds me of a sign I saw outside a church in Pasadena, CA this morning - a rainbow sign with the words "We support Marriage for All" in big letters. At least they're making it obvious what type church it is!

If you care what happens to this country, you ought to care about the unit that gives cohesion to a well-ordered society.

Pesky traditions, ah yes... 2+2=4... the clear sky is blue, not orange... As natural as the blue sky, a man and woman get married and produce children, as each of us was at one time including YOU, Mr. Newsome, and all of your misguided followers.
