More than 260 students attended a conference on Islam sponsored by the Council on American-Islamic Relations at Providence High School on Wednesday.
The all-day event started with a local Islamic religious leader reciting from the Koran and a CAIR representative reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Students attended lectures on Islam and participated in discussions on a variety of topics.
"It was a beautiful day," said Sarwat Hussain, executive director of CAIR-San Antonio. "Many teachers and interfaith leaders also participated in the event and deemed it a great success."

At least the school could present a complete portrayal:

What kind of man could hold a gun to a females head.....gutless fruitcake.

He did more than hold the gun to the unfortunate woman's head. Look closely at the pavement.

this is a GREAT point. we aren't the intolerant ones running around blowing people up because they don't follow our faith. It really is the Islamic schools that need to have these kinds of conferences to teach them to tolerate others.

My niece did a diversity thing with her CCD (Catholic Sunday School, although it's usually held on a Saturday) class at a synagogue a few blocks away from her church. And you know what? A month or so later, the Jewish kids from the synagogue
did the same thing at her church.
Now, Sarwat Hussein of CAIR-San Antonio: Your move.

Glad you survived your initiation here yesterday! ;-)
You'll do fine. Welcome to FR.
As one Ohioan to another, where are you? (I'm in Groveport, but I still miss Hilliard.)

Lurkers love these threads. Careful.

Yeah, I know, but he took it like a man yesterday. And at least he posted a state flag. More than I can say for some long-timers.

"Originally from Jordan, Imam Yousef relocated to the Islamic Center from a Houston mosque in 2002. In the wake of September 11, he recognized that the Islamic Center, whose members are largely from the Middle East, India, and Pakistan, could play a vital role in
San Antonio. He took it upon himself to help educate the wider community on Islam, and also to
remind young Muslims that they are American Muslims first.
Today, the basketball hoops outside the mosque sport Texas flags, and the Center annually holds an open house, inviting the San Antonio community to meet its members and ask questions.
During the U.S. led invasion in Iraq, Imam Yousef has often preached against acts of violence done in the name of Islam in his Friday sermons."
Sounds like San Antonio Moslems have their heads on straight (no thanks to CAIR of course).
