Characterizing his agenda this year as a "great battle" against "evil," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger used a 28-minute speech at the state Republican convention Friday night to rally fellow party members around his plans to fight Democratic interests at the ballot box.
Vowing to pass four broad government-overhaul measures at a special election later this year, Schwarzenegger said public employee labor unions and other foes are amassing $200 million to fight him.

"That's why they fixed a little here, a little there. But now we're going to the source. We're going right there where all the evil is, and we're going to fix this problem once and for all."
Belittling his Democratic adversaries in the Legislature for not responding to his proposals because they must be on "sleeping pills ... or medication," Schwarzenegger suggested they've all but blown their chance to join him.
"They can go ahead and do whatever they want," he bellowed in a line that drew loud applause from the 1,000 Republicans at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Sacramento. "The train has left the station.
"The train has left the station and there (are) three things they can do. One is they can join and then jump on the train. Number two, they can go and stand behind and just wave and be left behind. Or number three, they get in front of the train - and you know what happens then."
When the raucous applause and laughter died down, Schwarzenegger did what he always seems to do while delivering a fiery speech deriding the Democrats: He said how much he wants to work with them.
"It is my preference to go and work with the legislators," he said. "This is my number one preference. Work together like with some of the issues we did last year."

Make that $25 Billion if the "spending control" measure passes.
Remember all those promises he made to the teachers, et.al.? He now wants to spread that over 15 years, while continuing to spend increasing revenues on other social programs.
And what do you consider "progress"? Putting 1/5 of the state land under the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, run by unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats? Putting the state $25 billion in debt, while continuing to increase spending for more social programs? Diverting expense to the local level (with no matching revenue) to force local tax increases?
Please note, these are not "single issues" nor do they have much to do with "social views," unless of course you consider communism a social view that should be accepted in the interest of "moderation".

Larry J. Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia and editor of a book on initiatives, described Schwarzenegger's style as "elite direct democracy…. It's 'Trust the people, after I have informed them.'
Wouldn't you rather have people vote after Arnold informed them, than only base their votes on the information they get from the MSM?
Also, most Republicans recognize how important Arnold is to the CA GOP.

Republicans meeting at the party's state convention in Sacramento said they will eagerly fight by Schwarzenegger's side if he asks voters to support this year's agenda through ballot measures, a sharp contrast to a September convention when party officials feared key conservative members would not embrace the socially moderate Hollywood icon.
Republicans gave Schwarzenegger raucous cheers, reflecting a new confidence after years of being shut out in California's political wilderness.
"There's a euphoria that we're relevant again," said U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa. "The Republican party was doing very well in Washington, and was irrelevant in California for a number of years. It was also divided and leaderless. Now they are united with a tremendous leader."
There is no control of expenditures. There is no payback arrangement to the state. It will cost taxpayers $6 billion dollars, at least. If there is a great payback, then private capital would be investing right and left. They aren't.
There is nothing in my stated objection to this initiative that had to do with "petri dishes" or "life" issues, as you refer. It is FISCAL conservatism. Your positions are not only moderate on liberal on social issues, but fiscal issues as well.

but of course you know that past initiatives that fixed a certain % of revenues to certain programs is the devil here. The initiative process can be both good and bad. We need to get rid of those fixed cost money's to various program.....I am a very fiscal conservative bordering on being a Libertarian but we need to do what we can do with what we have until we shore up the spending programs
McClintock stated on more than one occasion that the Indian tribes were sovereign nations. He then accepted campaign contributions from them.
Didn't we get upset at Bill Clinton for accepting campaign contributions from foreign governments?

Unfortunately, the former has yet to coincide with the latter.
Compare the record. Davis wanted to borrow less and spend less. He also vetoed the Sierra Nevada Conservancy. History will show that we are no better off. In fact, it already shows that we are worse off.

that is because you are taking one opinion out of many and labeling it......my one position regarding Calif is not a composite of the many facets of my opinions of ALL policy, national and state.....you can't really extrapolate from this to all my ideas and policy thoughts........
