Cinemocracy Goes Billboard Hunting:
Fun Juxtaposition EditionCinemocracy went out in search of the Citizens United billboards this weekend, and we found two of the three. Last week, we exposed as a lie the group's erroneous claim that celebrities will see the "thank you" messages as they walk down the red carpet on their way into the Academy Awards. Turns out, one billboard actually is on Hollywood Boulevard, but a good four blocks away from the Kodak Theater at the corner of Hollywood and Whitley. It sits just above Mr. Rogers's star on the Walk of Fame, and, yes, that is Frederick's of Hollywood right next door.
The second billboard we found is on Sunset Boulevard, a block east of Doheny, in West Hollywood, some 3.3 miles from the site of the Oscars ceremony. I guess they figured they'd catch the winners on their way home to Beverly Hills.
This spot also makes for an interesting choice. When viewed from a certain angle, a key portion of the advertisement for Constantine, on a building behind the billboard, shows through.
A subliminal message of Freudian significance, no doubt. In case you can't quite the make it out from the photo, George W. Bush's new "caption" reads, "Hell wants him. Heaven won't take him. Earth needs him." Which I think echoes the reasoning of swing voters who went Republican in 2004.

Did anyone else see the woman with black hair and the funny lips on CNN yesterday, I think she sat in for Lou Dobbs, who literally spun this story as being about people who think Moore, Sheen etc. voted FOR Bush? She said something like "We don't know how some Hollywood celebs voted but someone has put up a billboard thanking them for..." etc. It was pretty blatant mis-reporting.

Where is the billboard located?
And I thought there are two of them in Hollywood.
Anyone give any thought to purple fingers?
I am so IN! But this time, can we please make sure we have a permit so we aren't kept out of the area by the police.
LOL!!
Way cool - that's takin' it to the streets - woo hoo!!!!!!! And thanks for the Hollywood ping!
I like this one best!
Oh, man, it's beautiful....
Good luck to the Hollywood Response Team. Looking forward to reading the after action report.
ROTF bump!
Perhaps we can FReep the incoming star-filled limos from somewhere near this location?
The BAD news is that it is three blocks (about 1/4 mile) EAST of the Red Carpet area, so we may have difficulty dragging the media over to interview us.But, the GOOD news is, we should be able to get permission to FReep here -- unobstructed by the MASSIVE crowds that will be at the corner of Hollywood & Highland.
This way, we would be promoting the CitizensUnited billboard, and it MIGHT make a good "photo op" -- as limos pass in the foreground, with US in the background. Or?
I really, really wish I could be there. Good luck you guys!

And, from www.oscars.org:
Maybe some FReeper can come up with a way we other FR'ers can mount a cyber campaign online to coincide with your appearance? Like deluging some media entities with emails or something?
