College Official Resigns Over Speaker

CLINTON, N.Y. - The head of a gender studies program at Hamilton College has resigned after igniting a furor by inviting to the campus a professor who likened the Sept. 11 victims to Nazis.
Nancy Rabinowitz said she was stepping down "under duress" as director of the Kirkland Project for the Study of Gender, Society and Culture. She will continue to teach comparative literature.
Rabinowitz resigned in a telephone call Thursday to the college's president.
On Feb. 3, she extended a speaking invitation to University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill, who in an essay written shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks compared the World Trade Center victims to "little Eichmanns," a reference to the Nazi bureaucrat Adolf Eichmann.
His appearance was ultimately canceled by the school because of death threats against college officials and Churchill.
Rabinowitz also drew fire in November when the program she headed offered a temporary teaching position to 1960s radical Susan Rosenberg. Rosenberg was indicted but never tried in a 1981 armored car robbery that left a guard and two police officers dead. She was sentenced for 58 years in prison for weapons possession, but President Clinton (news - web sites) granted her clemency in 2001 after she served 16 years.
Rabinowitz has been the project's only director since its founding in 1996.
"What the project needs now is someone more adept at the kind of political and media fight that the current climate requires. Therefore, it is in the interests of the mission of the project itself and for no other reason that I am yielding to requests that I resign," she said.
Hamilton is a liberal arts school with 1,750 students. It is about 40 miles east of Syracuse.
These gender- and ethnic-studies programs are nothing but hotbed hideouts for leftist victimitarians. No intelligent person should take these academic departments seriously.

Look when I went to Westmont in Santa Barbara, CA back in the early 70s, nearby UCSB and a totally Marxist history & economics dept., the taught classes on the History of Comic Books, Black Lesbianism, Famous Gay & Lesbian Authors and Sexology & Radical Feminism.
We used to hang out in Isla Vista & watch the freak show go by. It was the only place in the world where every store was closed during the day, but everything opened up from 8 PM-4AM.
The nuts teaching now are the fools who's parents threw away their money & had them go to idiot mill schools like this back then.
Got and idea. Why not yank all federal funding or close down all colleges with a ratio of liberals to conservatives of more than 50-50? Hey, we'd save MILLIONS & save thousands of brain dead zombie kids from Brainwashing 101.

They went straight from undergrad to grad to ph.d (in what...who knows) and straight to being liberal wack job professors at more colleges.

I agree..pull funding. Start some Conservative colleges and only fund those that have more conservative profs.
If the Feds simply said...across the board...a five percent cut on Fed funding of any university project...there would be a huge uproar across the entire nation of universities. You basically are killing off alot of projects...and leaving it to the school leadership to decide how to cut and reshuffle remaining funds. This actually puts everyone back to work in back rooms arguing about who gets what, and what construction project is delayed...and promises to keep liberal dimwits occupied for the next two years trying to defend their little kingdoms. And to make matters intersting...take the five percent that you cut from these jokers, and apply it to inter-city scholorships for unvder-privelaged kids. Put alot of low-educational kids into the college system to mess with the professors...and screw the system up even more.

More to the point, what does one do with any information one might glean in such a class - other than to aspire to teach.... wait for it...., why, yes... more comparative literature.
This is one of those courses which has two purposes for existing. 1) Earn the instructor tenure and a salary for life. 2) an excuse to force students to read all the leftist dogma you can lay your hands on in the pretense of serious study.
