I never shop at Wal Mart. Patriots should organize a boycott of the store, which epitomizes corporate America at its worst.

Walmart should want to hire fat, lazy unproductive union stewards and officers and pay them to plan, acheme and work against Walmart interests at every turn. It is what the unions have dome to small business in many parts of the US. It is why many businesses have quit or have sent the work to parts of the world where labor costs, including the penalty of unionized workers, are reasonable.

In fact, the propaganda war against Walmart is nothing more than a union campaign to get dues from a million new members, dues that can be dumped into the pockets of fat union bosses and their dem political hacks. The ultra-left wing, especially in the baby-killer-blue states, wants workers enslaved by unions and works to help unions at Walmart. It is a big target in terms of potential for dues money and high paying jobs with no work for union stewards.

This is the best news I've heard all week! It warms my heart to see businesses exercise their right to remain productive.

I'm not sure how I feel about Wal-Mart, but I know how I feel about Unions.

So, I will make a "job well done" purchase at Wal-Mart this week end.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend sort of thing, you know?

Many years ago, I worked for a company that landed a contract in a union house. I had to wear ID labeling me as "management". That experience was unbelievable !!!!! To any of you that dislike unions, but have never seen them work up close, all I can say is that they are far worse than you imagine. It's a damn wonder any finished product ever comes out of a union plant ever !!!!
Unions had their time and place, and were very necessary at the time, but they really need to go away at this point !!!

Not a Wal-Mart shopper, but I do believe I'll stop by one this weekend and make a purchase. AND let them know it's in support of their decision on the union issue.

["Wal-Mart is trying to send a message to the rest of their employees that if they join a union the same thing could happen to them," said Michael J. Fraser, the union's national director in Canada. Fraser said the union plans to file unfair labor practice charges against the chain with the Quebec Labor Relations Commission.]

And that is a good thing in my opinion. The unions have become left wing industrial destroyers who want way to much money with little work and generally suck the life out of the companies they work for. Wal Mart is smart and justified in their actions to keep union free.

Unfair labor practices? What's that? Do they mean that if an employer does not wish to accede to all labor's demands, they are forced to do so by some liberal laws in Canuckland? Whatta place to live!

Wal-Mart is trying to send a message to the rest of their employees

I'd say that succeeded at just that.

I have no problem with unions and collective negotiation. I grew up in a union family and those wages provided a good livelihood....but they were wages that came from the profitability of the company and not from the union bosses.

The downside of unions is demands for practices that are counter-productive to good business management.

The upside of unions is when the company has a great team of workers that is an important part of the company's strength. When they bargain reasonably with the interests of the company at heart, then they are a force that actually helps advance the company. When you get instead idiotic rules about who can replace a lightbulb or why a malingerer cannot be fired, then they injure a company.

I dont' know why that isn't obvious.

I've always believed that the long-term best interests of many companies would actually be some kind of profit-sharing employees (based on personal productivity) rather than wage receiving employees.

Wal-Mart's decision has infuriated the United Food and Commercial Workers union, which was negotiating a contract for the Quebec store's 190 employees. If it had succeeded, the store would have become the only Wal-Mart store in North America with a union contract.

"Wal-Mart is trying to send a message to the rest of their employees that if they join a union the same thing could happen to them," said Michael J. Fraser, the union's national director in Canada. Fraser said the union plans to file unfair labor practice charges against the chain with the Quebec Labor Relations Commission.

Hey! I've got an idea! Have the UFCW union BUY the store from Walmart, and then run it themselves! Show Walmart how a profitable store should be run! Yeah, the union could certainly turn a profit in that store!

My company has a stamping plant in Shelbyville KY which employs 700- 800 employees and last weekend they had a walkout. We were prepared to weather the storm, bussed down some volunteers to work production and were in the process of hiring temps.

Since the plant provides the regional Ford plant with Explorer body parts, they stepped in and told mgt. to settle or else...... They were not going to allow themselves to be shut down simply because we would not have been unable to supply them with parts.

I don't know what the new agreement with the union entails but it ain't good for our company considering the millions in losses we have experienced of the last couple years and no new work coming in...........

Competition in the stamping industry is tough as hell and Ford just made it tougher for us...............

As a side note, production workers at that plant are averaging over $60,000 per year with overtime, some making in excess of $80,000......... Not too bad for that part of the country
