The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
I'm not certain but I think the answer to that is that Mr. Robinson is the only one making that recent accusation.
On the contrary, the Stormfront site has all kinds of info and chat about the Minuteman Project and signing up and even about carrying weapons when you go. And as to the original post of this thread, Mr. Robinson said he was against vigilantism as well as racism. I believe the Minuteman Project falls into that category.
I don't engage in PC. I simply hate Nazis. That's pretty straight forward.
I'd say that should be enough.
What about you? ...With regard to the questions above -- not the minuteman project.
I personally dont buy into this damnation by friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend type of thing.
Smacks of McCarthyism to me.
I have quoted VDARE and some others before and think that 'White Nationailsm' is a simmering force that may burst onto the scene in the next ten to twenty years and should be vetted, discussed and cleaned out of its fascist elements, and eventually this will happen.
But this is Robinson's site and he has every right to ban whomever he wants, including me or ALIPAC or anyone else.
If he thinks a poster is doing things that makes him or his goals vulnerable then he *should* ban people if they do not respond to his warnings, if he bothers to give any - he doesnt have to.
MAybe ALIPAC should start up their own website.
Well, from what I have seen of "white nationalism," it isn't just the fascist elements that disgust me, it is the outright racism.
I'm a WASP and a DAR. I'm proud of the south and my heritage, and want to protect them.
But I find the attitudes of "white nationalists" to be utterly repulsive. They take it way too far.
Most of those I've known are nothing more than pathetic trash. The ones who aren't are just sinister.
Well yes, now that we know that we are ALL not Nazis and none of the groups besides perhaps stormfront (I dont visit their site so I dont know) contain Nazis and we all feel better about ourselves for clearing that up by assuring others, let's move on to Minuteman.
I am a Minuteman sympathizer (not Nazi) because of how deplorable the situation is at the border. Our citizens and our border patrol are getting chewed up (fired upon) down there and although they want to do the job they have been instructed to hand out tickets instead.
We have elements of the Mexican army involved with drug trafficking and border encroachments and we have citizens living in complete terror. There are intelligence reports that Al-Qaeda is linked up with Latino gangs that import drugs and illegal aliens and our government and the Bush administration is sitting on its hands. Anyone want to dispute these facts? Put on your tinfoil hats because it does not make sense, but this is what is happening.
It is true that the President and the Congress are failing in their constitutional duties to enforce our laws and Im considering going to Minuteman and no Nazi is going to scare me off. I know police officers, retired military, and non-nazi activists and even a grandmother that want to go as well.
By the way... Re "friend of a friend" and McCarthyism ...
My earlier post explains how I feel about innocently quoting disreputable sources, and why anyone who actually cares about the flood of illegals should keep a high wall between themselves and white supremacists.
PS: If we enforced our immigration laws, the white nationalists wouldnt have an issue to make with immigration.
skeeter...address what was posted to you.
Had I wanted you to apologize for that, I would have said so, which I didn't.
Had I claimed that you said that, I would have clearly said so to an extent where there wouldn't be the slightest doubt in your mind, and you wouldn't need to ask me to clarify my question.
Once again...are you claiming that comments about shooting border crossers have not been made in FR by "your" side?
No, they'd just go after Blacks and Jews that have been here for generations.
Look.
The point is, there are just too many credible sources and fine thinkers on our side that we can use - we don't need the help of WNs. Anyone who thinks using them even a little sure can't whine when the race baiters use it against them.
Having any connection with the WNs at all, quoting them or giving them the time of day, only serves to hurt our cause.
I was stunned to read this. I've made MANY anti-open-borders posts and responses on immigration threads here and have never encountered any problems whatsoever!
Additionally, the idea that the administrator of this site actively supports this (you, according to the article) also came across as ludicrous and completely a$$-backwards!!
Thanks for running FR, Jim, and letting yahoos like me spout off political ideals and ideas without being banned (as long as those spoutings meet the standards clearly established on this site).
Agreed and if you looked closely at the Minuteman webpage (oooops don't ban me! I know we can't link to it but it's ok to acknowledge it exists right?) You will see that they are doing background checks on those that have applied to participate. They have also stated that any trouble makers that show up will be told to leave. They have made their declaration.
There is no evidence that the Minuteman Project welcomes or supports stormfront. Stormfront wants to go to the party just like they want to be on Free Republic and both groups have told them to stay out.
Since a lot of people know this that leaves the speculation as to why they were banned from Free Republic. One possible factor, for Minuteman being banned from this site, is that the organizers of Minuteman have clearly stated that this protest is an embarrassment to the Bush administration and they mean it to be.
How about asking Americans to mow their own lawns, raise their own children, and generally take care of many of the things they did when I was growing up?
Episcopalian as he is Dr. Cooper himself never prayed with such fervor, such Ardor, such Earnestness and Pathos, and in Language so elegant and sublimefor America, for the Congress, for the Province . . .
Some thing never change . . .
Pinging Ros to #3277... Really wonderful...
I meant #3281...
I've also read posts calling those passionate about border enforcement 'sheetheads'; that American workers replaced by illegals are drunks & slackers; even read a post or two proposing that the racial majority here deserves extinction.
Beautiful post! Thanks.
