The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall.
That is exactly the problem. An invasion of illegals stealing from you and me and the difference is you like it.
Of course a thread of this nature would not be complete without Dane weighing in.
Your anology to the Berlin wall is apples and oranges. Reagan was talking about freedom for people in their own countries and the time had come for Germany to be reunited. It has nothing to do with illegal immigration and preserving our sovereignty.
I don't even need to walk out of my house --- I can see the border from here --- the masses are moving away from that corrupt culture and government they've got going over in Mexico. That's what's driving this, that's what needs to change. The entire fact that that filthy government believes it has authority over us and our laws speaks volumnes --- and their sheer terror at us making our own laws speaks volumes. They don't want reforms --- they are perfectly happy with the corruption and terrible system they've put into place. But they should be made to realize the gig is over. Reforms start today. Or in the words of the famous Vicente Fox "Hoy, hoy hoy".
You see racism in everyone. As a result your claims of racism are pointless.
Another illustration of the inability of some of you to separate debate from emotion.
I don't like it, I do what I can to understand the underlying factors so that I can best formulate in my mind what I believe would be a permanent solution.
The rest of you, seemingly unable to think clearly and approach the issue without engaging your emotions, just want to cast aspersions on those of us who wish to do something other than post idiocies about mining borders and shooting "invaders".
As a nation, we must control and defend the borders.
Sadly, you're comment seems right on the button. "Of the people, by the people, for the people" sort've has a hollow ring these days, doesn't it?
Kudos and support for FR, Jim!
FR is one the most valuable sites on the internet!

"He reposted the pulled article, never a good idea, which caused his ban."
This is not entirely correct.
1. He posted an article by Ted Rall that was deleted.
2. He made another thread asking the moderator to reinstate the thread (he did provide the link without the article). See contents of second post.
You can't change their government from here, because they will not allow it anymore than we will alow them to change our government from there.
"I do, I just will not take the time to do for you what I took the time to do for myself."
I believe you are lying to me.
Reagan believed in sovereignty, but not in the neo-Khruschev way you and your side promote, building walls.
Also Reagan was the one who first proposed NAFTA.
Sure we can. Put some control over immigration and things will change quite quickly. They would have to. Can you imagine how much more quickly changes would take place if even just a few million of the illegals who have been exposed to the American way of things were to be returned home? They're going to want cars, tractors, telephones, indoor plumbing --- all the things they never saw before coming here. They would be a big stimulus on getting changes going.
The Mexican government knows it --- and that's why it's so insistent on no controls ever being put into place.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you know absolutely zip about Senor Hadenuf.
He was abusive, rude, and had a grudge against people from Mexico, legal OR illegal. Illegal immigration IS a problem that needs to be fixed. Legal immigration shouldn't be a problem, as I'll bet YOUR ancestors came here to make a life for themselves once.
There's no protection for Mexican folks over and above other nationalities where I'm concerned. Reasonable folks would judge people based on the type of person the individual is, and not be so woefully uninformed/narrow minded as to base it on a broad generalization. Your post makes zero sense - but again, I'll giving you the benefit of the doubt, since you have no history with me either.
Thanks.
You see. This is a perfect example of liberal thinking. You have labeled me, without any proof whatsoever, someone who wants to mine the border and shoot people. I have never said that.
And, you wonder why people get angry at you. I think you do it on purpose because you can't rationally look at this as a legal issue instead of your emotional point of view: I don't like it, I do what I can to understand the underlying factors...
The issue is our laws and the continued usurpation of those laws and the support you give that usurpation.
I have said all along that we should enforce existing laws.
Here's the item -- repost, semi-repost, call it what you will -- which I've just restored for the public record.
"Thats nice. You still haven't given a good reason NOT to mine the border."
Good God, man!
You don't seriously think that we should blow the feet and legs off of men, women and children sneaking across the border to try and get a better lives for themselves, do you?
Here's a good reason NOT to mine the border: to do so would be evil.
Mostly because we needed to get rid of the massive amounts of Mexican workers that we allowed in the country to cover the vacancies created a few years before by the troops engaged in fighting a World War.
The troops were home, and by 1954 they were back at work, and their children were entering the job market...so out with the Mexicans!
By the way, we ripped off many of the people who came here legally, under the Bracero program, worked and went home.
The're still trying to get paid today.
