Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Some people are afraid that more radicalized Mexican-Americans may some day try to fulfill MECHA's (? not sure of initials) vicious exhortations.

These last four years I've been more afraid of radicalized privileged American left wing wackos beginning violence at a polling place or a political office headquarters (like the vandalism of the Republican storefronts in Florida).

I think the only reason they didn't steal 2000 outright is that Republicans have guns.

I wonder why they seem to prefer the status quo to a workable solution that might not be 100% of what they want.

Who knows why but all they're going to end up with is nothing. If the President's plan isn't going to pass Congress then people like Tancredo don't stand a prayer of even getting a bill up for a vote. Solutions to illegal immigration aren't going to happen in an instant or with one bill. Dealing with it piece by piece would probably end up a better solution instead of one massive bill that some idiots in Congress would probably load down with garbage.

Do you have ANY idea what group would take over once that explosion happens?

Couldn't be any worst than the group in power now. How many more can leave? Lets see ---- half the state of Zacatecas has left Mexico and is in the USA --- would another group be so bad that the other half would come? It's coming with the current group anyhow. Believe it or not --- half of Zacatecas is over here --- yet immigration from that state is not slowed --- and they've more likely than ever to risk death trying.

We don't need guest workers. There are roughly that many actual Americans in this country right now out of work that we know of, to say nothing of those being put out of work because the Corporations have identified the new slavery and are using it while they think they can get by with it. The truth is, Workers have had an upper hand in the supply and demand realm for a bit and business doesn't like having to pay anyone what the market establishes. They've done an endrun to avoid it. And now they've abused the system along with the politicians to the point of risking war. All I can say for Fox is that if civil war breaks out in this country, he'd do best to find a good hiding place and shut his mouth. If it came to that, I just don't know that revolutionaries would think much of him.. could be wrong; but, that's my take...

May be. Like the Senate broke off a piece of tort reform and passed it 72 votes for -- taking many class action law suits out of State courts so they can't be shopped to sympathetic judges and districts with poor juries.

We don't need guest workers. The only reason many believe them is they fear the corrupt elite currently in power in Mexico will be run out of the country if we don't keep taking in millions a year from that one country. And they will be run out of the country --- they'll pack up and exile in Europe and be replaced with others more or less like themselves. Maybe better --- couldn't really get any worse --- no country in the world has it's population leaving in the numbers or the ratios that Mexico has.

You are putting words in my posts.

Again, please explain why letting a neighboring country explode is good for us.

Maybe we should just give up and invade Mexico.

Rule it as a territory and fix things.

Well, got to defeat the left wingers here before we go after those in Mexico. First things first.

Keeping the corrupt ones in power is exactly what massive immigration is intended to do ---- keeping the corrupt in power there does more to provoke the explosion.

Limiting immigration would actually go a whole lot further in bringing about some reforms --- imagine the terror that would bring to Vicente Fox and the Mexican Congress if they knew we were not going to cowtow to them any longer --- then they'd have to get serious about some reforms.

"It must kill you to read ALL these posts proving that the vast majority of Freepers are NOT vigilant anti-Hispanic."

That's the opposite of what Howlin said. The vast majority of Freepers on this thread are PRO-strong borders. Howlin said those Freepers are NOT vigilant anti-Hispanics.

Do you have some stats on Mexican emigration and population figures?

My guess is that their population is still growing is why they can't accommodate them all.

Another argument for the Electoral College.

Joe Hadenuf had it coming. He just plain didn't like Mexicans, and anyone who called him out was an "illegal sympathizer". It's called "getting your come-uppance"

And some people, like me, don't like Germans and Frenchies. Is disliking Mexicans somehow worse? Why? What makes them a protected nationality? Stop - don't come back with a knee jerk reaction to that question. I want you to think about it for a while and try to understand where you and others got the idea that Mexicans were somehow to be treated differently than any other nationality.

Jim Rob knows more about this site, what it is, was, can be and could be, than any of us. I, and many other FReepers also, have been vigilant enough to jump on trolls, and provocateurs who will do anything to discredit this site.
FREE REPUBLIC has gotten VERY big since it started, has become a political force, and as such is eminently susceptible to drive-by potshots by people who only want to do it harm. Trust that JimRob knows what is best for this site, and has a better feel for it and its (and our) future
than any of us. After all, he created it.

I'm madly addicted to FR and am staunchly conservative, and I hope I'm not being too presumptuous when I say that I believe alot of those on FR would agree with the following.

Do I agree with what President Bush says 100% of the time? No. (Sorry, DU, but most Republicans are not "Bushbots" and can make logical decisions and determinations on their own). I don't think I agree with ANYONE 100% of the time, and that includes Ronaldus Maximus, the Great Communicator, who is my favorite Prez' of all time.

Regarding the whole illegal immigration thing, I'm not sure if I agree 100% with W's proposals - I don't know all the details. Something seems a little off about the plan, but at least he's TRYING to do something about the most important security issue facing Homeland Security.

But here's the point, and something the left simply doesn't get, President Bush has proven himself to be a man of integrity and courage. And because I can see he has such character and honor, I'm willing to listen to his ideas and will back him on what he's trying to accomplish, with the full understanding that the particulars will get ironed out in the long run.

We don't need to invade Mexico --- we can easily get the ruling class out just by closing the borders --- the Mexicans will run them out --- within days --- and then it's up to them.

They could follow the Texas example --- state by state declare their independence from Mexico and then petition to join the USA --- or they could go on as they pretty much are --- with another corrupt set of elites to ruin their country. It's up to them either way.
