IMHO, if you are giving your honest opinion on the issue, why hide behind a "screen name". It has always been my personal policy not to post anything that I don't want EVERYONE to read, even those that disagree with me. I have ALWAYS used my real name in postings, and I don't hesitate to tackle the "controversial" stuff. I say what I mean, mean what I say, and I'm not afraid to tell the world that I said it. I live and work in a BLUE city/county, and almost everyone I work with knows that I have opinions, MOST of my co-workers, including SUPERIORS disagree with me on many issues, but we respect each others opinions, and I have never been told to "join my party or be fired". And yes I do work for an elected Sheriff who is a Democrat, and a State Attorney who is also a Democrat.
Just my 2cents worth on the subject.

David don't post your phone number......sheesh!
Dear davidosborne,
Some of us have found ourselves in positions where to reveal much about ourselves would be to invite some possible problems.
I'm a little (not much) more open now than during the Clinton years, but during that time, I'd have been unhappy to have been identified as a poster on FreeRepublic by some parties.

a couple of the "lincoln brigade" (read that unionist/extremist LUNATICS!) on FR have called my employer & demanded that i be dismissed, because of my GOP,SCV & PRO-dixie political activities.
what my boss said TO them is UNPRINTABLE!

LOL I like your approach, in your face is best. We're americans, damnit.
The anonymous quality of a screen name is useful for people that don't have public or commercial duties. I, for example, don't wan't FR to become part of my next clearance review.
BTTT!!!!!
I like your policy, David -- open, honest, and unafraid (much like Brit Hume). Some folks here, however, probably are in high places, and a flippant comment on FR could come back to bite them. It's happened before. But if a Freeper is in a highly-placed political or governmental position, they should exercise care in what they post or how they say things.
In some circles of the media, simply posting to FreeRepublic is tantamount to "extremism." The left is not beyond using guilt by association. Damn the website, and they damn anyone who posts to it, regardless of content of a post.
I guess we should consider it a compliment that some on the left are trying to "out" and attack members of the FR family. It shows how effective the impact is of this site.
