BRUIN STANDARD newspaper -- the new alternative voice on the UCLA campus

BRUIN STANDARD

His name is Garin Hovanisian. He is conservative. That is great among us, but what if you are a conservative journalist on the UCLA campus? That takes courage.

Garin was on the Al Rantel show tonight. We have just witnessed the birth of a brand new newspaper on the UCLA campus --- THE BRUIN STANDARD.

After laboring away at THE DAILY BRUIN, the official voice at UCLA for many, many decades, Garin was denied an editorship that he should have received. No conservative has a chance for such a job. That is just the way it is.

So Garin started his own newspaper. For now, it is monthly. There are high hopes that it soon be done every other week.

One of the great features is called "Academian Nut," which outs a biased professor. In the inaugural issue, liberal whackjob Professor Mary Corey is the target.

Go check out the website and send some encouraging notes. Next, we need a FReeper chapter on UCLA.

This former Trojan applauds a Bruin with common sense. I will just have to check out their ad rates for my business.

For advertising, I suggested that they have a column, WE SUPPORT FREE SPEECH AT UCLA, and list everyone who sends them $10.

I didn't say: After laboring away for many, many decades at the DAILY BRUIN, the official voice at UCLA, Garin was denied an editorship.

Okay. I try to be as precise as I can. That was a tough sentence. :)

Dont forget the Irvine Review, UC Irvine's own conservative paper. We are in the heart of conservative California, or what is left of it. We publish twice a quarter. www.irvinereview.org

Our site keeps getting hacked, but we are fixing that.

Thanks for the ping, FreeKeys! Garin has a genuinely fine career before him as a journalist. I really enjoyed both articles.

At IU, the Daily Student was notoriosly biased to the Left. Even then, back in 1990, we riducled it for it's left-laying bias.

During a push poll the paper was conducting, I honked the poller by describing myself ethnically as "None of the above."

"Oh? You sound awfully, er, Caucasian to me."

"'Beg pardon. NORTH Sea Islander, if you please."

"*snort* Anyway, your opinion of the Daily Student? The student newspaper?..."

"Choice 'E' is insufficient. It is 'F!' COMPLETELY 'Untrustworthy!'"

*click.*

Amazing to me to see some life in my old alma mater. There may be some hope yet for good old Westwood.
