LONDON (Reuters) - Legal precedent will be set when film director Roman Polanski gives evidence in an English court via videolink from a Paris hotel room in order to avoid the risk of extradition to the United States for a child sex offence.
England's highest court ruled on Thursday the 71-year-old should be allowed to sue the publishers of U.S. magazine Vanity Fair for libel from the safety of France.

Well, this is stupid. If he wants to sue, he should be in court, and if they extradite him, well, then he'll have his day in court for being a pedophile...
I don't know anything about his suit against the magazine, but I hope he wins, and they tell him he can pick up his check at Sing Sing.
He and Michael Jackson used to baby-sit for each other.
Calling Corey Feldman.....
Let's see; an English court, telling an American that he can sue from France. What's wrong with this picture?
I beleive he's a native of France
Polanski chose the venue because it optimizes his chance for legal success.
As to why it should have application in the U.S., I haven't a clue...
Polanski should have just served his 30 days in jail back in 1977 instead of running to Europe.
His crime would have long since been forgotten.
His extreme efforts to avoid extradition alone are keeping it alive in the public consciousness.
Wonder how they get around the 6th amendment....right to confront a witness.
