I'm no legal expert but he might have a case for libel. It would serve them right if he chose to sue.

Well, I'm no legal eagle, but it was libel it was pretty dang close. Too dang close for anyone who purports to be a reputable journalist. To win a libel suit, he'd have to show actual malice and not just incompetence. The media is "fortunate" enough to have establish a record of gross incompetence, so malice is pretty doggone hard to prove.
