I'd like to see Federal Highway Funds witheld from states that allow Illegal Aliens to get drivers licenses. We have a nut named Thoomy in Massachusetts (Cambridge of course) who is trying to get them for the criminals. How do you prove you are an Illegal Alien to the Registry anyway and wouldn't someone convucted of DUI be able to scam his way back on the road?

Interesting that Loretta Sanchez did not vote.
She represents the 47th District in CA which has a huge illegal alien population(Bob Dornan's old district)

It will be attached to the Iraq bill. Bush made a deal so that the intelligence passed last year.

Ram it through the Senate while they are all chasing that non-story about a conservative webmaster. Talk about stupid....

I smell a RAT in the Senate consideration of this bill. I believe the fix is already in and this bill will go down to defeat.

This bill sucks on the draconian driver license provisions especially Section 203 requiring the linking of state driver license databases through the Driver License Agreement (DLA). It makes personal information like SS#'s available to any law enforcement officers not only in the US but Canada and Mexico. I call it the Identity Theft Enhancement Act of 2005. It also means a traffic ticket anywhere in North America will show on your driving record with points. It doesn't matter if you got the ticket in Mexico City or Whitehorse, Yukon or Souris, Prince Edward Island.

There was an amendment to section 203 to prevent the database from holding info on citizens who practice their 1st, 2nd or 14th amendment rights. The amendment was voted down ! This bill did not get any hearing. It went straight from Sensebreener's desk to the House Floor.

the key is in the conference committee. if the GOP made a deal, this will be attached to the Iraq bill in the Senate as well.

at that point, i don't see that many Senators voting against it. who will vote against Iraq? who will vote against this illegal alien popular measure?

"It will never pass the Senate."

Probably true, but if a different version passes, I hope Sensenbrenner is appointed to the conference committee.

Just remember the famous saying of Senator kennedy (he didn't say it but he wants to):

A terrorist is not a terrorist if he votes Democrat.

He voted against Congressional recognition of Charles Schulz, the comic artist of Peanuts. Admittedly, it's a dumb bill, meaning nothing, and required about 3 seconds of debate since it got to the floor. But Ron Paul took a principled stand.

"It also means a traffic ticket anywhere in North America will show on your driving record with points."

Why is that a bad thing?

I knew a guy who got his 2nd Calif. Drunk Driving ticket, arrest. The Calif Dept of Motor Vehicles automatically suspends his Calif license.

He happens (just happens?) to have a Utah license. So he goes on driving, thinking he is okay. He drives in Calif, drives in Utah, moves to Utah over the whole thing.

The Calif DMV had intended to take away his priviledge of driving. Do you think that Utah believes people with two, recent drunk driving arrests in other states, should have the priviledge of driving in Utah?

All in all, people tha don't violate laws, have nothing to lose, and something to gain: Reducing the freedom of repeat crime doers.
