"It would cost $32 million to complete this border security fence." On the "Bush Budget Scraps 9,790 Border Patrol Agents" thread BootsOfEscaping noted that the President has promised $600 million dollars to the tsunami recovery.
I guess its different when the big wave is made up of humans instead of water.

I guess its different when the big wave is made up of humans instead of water. You must remember, to the President, everyone is a victim, except American citizens.

"In 2004, border patrol agents arrested over 650 suspected terrorists from countries of national security interest trying to cross the southern border, and they expect the number will rise this year."
But, but, but they keep saying that the terrorists aren't using the southern border. (sarcasm off)

Just thought I'd ping Bayourod...and ask him if he wants to hire these 650 "immigrants" to cut his lawn / wash his dishes?
LOL

Bayourod? You mean, the FReeper who insists we've never had a terrorist caught crossing the southern border?
What does he know that the 9/11 commission and Congressman Cox don't know?

While I am not against better driver licenses issued by the States, I am dead set against the powers the Federal government is assuming in how they will be used, especially to control travel.
This legislation reportedly contains some very dangerous precedents that must be excised before passage.

Where is the documentation that any of the "suspected terrorists" turned out to indeed have terrorist connections?
How many of those 650 were "arrested" at border crossing points because their papers were not in order? How many were cleared and allowed to continue on into the U.S.? Several million people cross our borders every year legally. To have 650 of them "suspected" is not arlarming except to certain type people who are fearful of immigrants.
There hasd been lots of "evedence" that has not proven valid, such as the six Chinese headed to Boston.
There have been nearly 200 people indicted for terrorists related activities in the U.S. since 9/11. Not aq single one was a border jumper.
The anti-immigrant crowd doesn't seem to be able to distinguish between suspicion and fact on anything,

How many of those 650 were "arrested" at border crossing points because their papers were not in order? Zero. The BP does not man the border crossing points.

They certainly do unless you're using some very narrowly defined definition of border patrol.
See CBP

In fact don't you work at an airport checking visas? You have certainly given everyone the impression that you are a member of the border patrol.

"The anti-immigrant crowd...bla, bla, bla"
There ya go again.
There's a sizeable anti ILLEGAL immigrant crowd here on FR...myself being one of them.
You keep on leaving out the ILLEGAL part there Bayo...
It only took 19 to bring the towers down.
If the US is to err, I'd rather err on the side of caution...
"There have been nearly 200 people indicted for terrorists related activities in the U.S. since 9/11. Not aq single one was a border jumper."
You forgot to add...."that I know of"
unless you have some exclusive access to all FBI, CIA and NCIC files.
You can't even acknowledge that these "border jumpers" are here illegally....do you really expect to convince anyone here on FR that your rants are factual?

The anti-immigrant crowd wouldn't be concerned at all about terrorists if it weren't an excuse they use to crack down on immigrants. They don't seem interested at all in other aspects of terrorism. In fact they want resources diverted from the priority anti-terrorist defenses to be used to catch Mexican gardeners.

I work for CBP.
CBP Officers man the legal crossing points and the BP guards the area between the legal crossing points.
Once again, you've shown you lack of knowledge regarding the border.
