Tensions surface over arms for China
The Austrialian ^ | 2/10/2005 | Anthony Browne

The split is not over Iraq -- that wound is rapidly healing -- but over the EU's impending decision to lift its embargo on the sale of arms to China.

The decision, which EU countries have agreed in principle -- they are now hammering out the practicalities -- is seen as a historic shift in global allegiances, with the EU choosing for the first time to give preference to the strategic interests of looming superpower China over the interests of its oldest ally, the US.

One US official said recently: "We are talking about the Europeans making it easier for the Chinese to kill Americans."

Here's an idea. If any American are killed with European weapons, we bomb the capital of country. Any volunteers to take out Paris?

Just remember WHO is running the EU, and what their motivations are. One-upsmanship on the U.S. is one of their arch goals. The EU wants to "get even" with the U.S. for demonstrating how ineffective the EU really is. We are a bad example for the EU...at the same time, the EU is struggling to justify its existence so it wants to demonstrate ANY FORM OF ECONOMIC SUCSESS THAT IT CAN for its members and potential members --- EVEN IF THAT MEANS SELLING WEAPONS TO COMMIE CHINA JUST TO MAKE SOME EUROS.

Two birds with one stone...from the EU perspective. They are complete jerks and NOT friends of the US.

From my post: Rice Hints U.S. Resigned to EU Ending China [arms] Embargo

What about America's role in making China rich enough to afford said quality arms? Once you let China into the WTO and make China your free trade partner what justification the exists for an arms embargo? That your scared she might knock you off the world power perch? In fact I predict as soon as the EU gets juicy military contracts American arms makers will lobby Congress for the right to sell China their wares.

The problem isn't that anything the Euros give them is worth a damn, but its almost a near endorsement for military action against Taiwan. This is like the Europeans selling weapons to Cuba circa 1960s.

The US has to do all it can to dilute the cheap labor offered by China by building up the Western African countries.

Pakistan and India like to fight it out. China could call our bluff and attack Taiwan because there is very little chance we would use nukes unless it was a little bunker buster to take out that Three Gorges Damn or something like that.

"What about America's role in making China rich enough to afford said quality arms?..."

Yep, that disgusts me as well. It started with Clinton accepting Chinese bribes (aka campaign contributions) and Bush has done squat to stop it.

"Will you add London to your list???They have also been rather vocal on lifting the arms ban on the PRC. "

Sure...tell them all the risks...sell China all you want but if any of that is used against us, you WILL hear from us very clearly. Kind of like warning the Arabs that we will destroy Mecca if they mess with us.

Frankly, if it comes to war with China, it won't matter much anyway. That war would be VERY messy, along the lines of WW1 without the trenches.

Given that I am in business and have even been to China, I am appalled by the sell-out. I call 'em like I see them.
