If William were to become King I think it would give the dynasty another 40 or 50 years of zest. Precisely. In my ideal scenario - Her Majesty waits another 5 to 10 years, abdicates, and hands over to William.
It will liven up the monarchy for a new generation.

I switched over to CNN, typically Lou Dobbs is in rerun at the moment, but CNN is in CNN International mode covering this story.

Well, that's good then. You were saying he doesn't seem to *want* to be King, and that may be true. However, he has always seemed to carry himself as if he understood the responsibility that lies upon his shoulders. Though I don't know where his brain went when he went costume shopping with his little brother.

Somehow I think William gave up trying to control his brother, just as everyone else has.

One possibility is that she would be named Princess of Wales, bringing back memories of Prince Charles' first wife, Diana. They must be joking! No way will the British public stand for that. I hope William and Harry put up a fuss over it.

Sheesh and I thought he only wanted to be her tampon all these years!

Opinion polls in Britain have indicated widespread support for this marriage for some time now. If Diana was alive, it would be different - but as it is, I'm not sure how people will go at all.
My bet would be Duchess of Cornwall as a title for now - longer term, I'm honestly not sure.

thanks for adding that other thread to this one

Something else to be considered in this is the Statute of Westminster. That could have interesting implications.

She said Camilla was a "very nice woman" but admitted: "There will be quite a lot of hostility from those who do not like her." Stop right there we have the winner of "The Firm Command of the Obvious Award"

Charles can't exactly give her a title anyway, can he? The Queen is the only one that can do that, right?
Unless anything specific is done she will automatically assume the titles of her husband (Princess of Wales, Duches of Conrwall &c.). If this is to be altered (as I think likely) then it would be the Queen (as fount of honour) who bestows the title.
There's been a lot of talk about getting rid of the monarchy, but I don't think too many people really want to do that.
As with the rest of the world, the leftists want rid of the Monarchy, the conservatives want to keep it.
However, if Charles ascended after marrying this woman I think that might tear it. If William were to become King I think it would give the dynasty another 40 or 50 years of zest.
I agree. Mrs. Parker Bowles is not terribly popular, but the people won't mind too much as long as she is not Princess of Wales or Queen.
All that aside, it seems Queen Elizabeth is not planning on going anywhere anytime soon. She may outlive her own mum in the end.
Absolutely. She's still doing wonderfull well, and showing no sign of going away.
God save the Queen.

That is where I heard it first. Both MSNBC and FOX have it in their bottom crawlers.
Just a few moments ago,CNN's weather guy, Chad, said "it proves love is blind." Carol looked a little shocked. Frankly neither of them do much for me ...perhaps they are a good match.

Wonder what the British public will think of the new 'Princess of Wales'!
Ouch!
I don't think I'd fancy that title if I was Horseface.
