Yes, a new era of peaceful coexistence has dawned between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs.

There's only one thing that Israel can do in response: unilaterally withdraw from Gaza and throw thousands of Jews out of their homes because they are Jews.

Seriously, what in the world can Prime Minister Sharon be thinking !?

Wow, this peace lasted less than the last one. Maybe they'll finally just have a 10 minute PEACE coffee break and resume killing.

Is the Gaza strategically critical? What is there other than a few thousand settlers that need to be defended?

There goes the Cease-fire. Fox News had reported earlier that someone was shot in Gaza earlier today. The first fatality since the agreement.

There are reports of damage, including to at least one home.

I'm afraid when more info comes in it will be higher.

This sounds crazy but maybe this will work.

1. Fast track a Palestinian state that is sovereign.
2. Give it one warning that if one single attack happens, then it is a war to the finish.
3. After the first attack, destroy them all.
4. Take it all back and settle it.

In related news, a short while ago shots were fired towards an IDF post at the Kadim settlement in northern Samaria.

It was the second shooting incident of the day at the Kadim settlement. In both incidents no one was injured and no damage to property was reported.

Tolerance for violence against and murder of Jews that was built up over 80 years does not magically disappear in a week, a month, nor a year.

The media will ignore this, but any retaliation will be big news it will "threaten peace" and will be Israel's fault, according to the media.

Everyone knew Hamas and Islamic Jihad would never go along with Abbas call to end violence. This is no surprise. Give Abbas a chance to react or to fail to react. If he fails nothing has changed from before. If he reacts against Hamas then we have something new.

As far as Gaza is concerned, those settlements should never, ever have been built in the first place. The only thing that holding onto a tiny piece of land with 2 million hostile Arabs and 8,500 Jews can bring is a lot of innocent Jewish deaths. Maybe Prime Minister Sharon is trying to create a secure border and save Jewish lives. Did you ever think of that?

Is the Gaza strategically critical?

Of course not. It's a 2.5 mile wide stretch of desert. The only part that is critical is the Philadelphia Road on the Egyptian border at Rafah. The rest is worthless.

What is there other than a few thousand settlers that need to be defended?

A few thousand IDF soldiers defending them and risking their lives for them.

I'm with you all the way.

I've long felt that if there is a Palestinian state, the "occupied territory" excuse will no longer hold. If then the new state should attack Israel, then that amounts to one sovereign state attacking another, and Israel would have the right and duty to respond in full measure.

I have a feeling that that's what Sharon and Bush are thinking. Because if that is not their rationale, then this amounts to national suicide,G-d forbid. Things are about to get awfully interesting in that part of the world.

3. After the first attack, destroy them all.

All two million? Innocent and guilty together? Murderers and babies equally? Thankfully Israel would never commit such an atrocity. You are speaking of genocide. How long would it take for the world community, lead by the United States, to intervene on the side of the Palestinians? How many Israelis would die in the process?

Is the Gaza strategically critical?

Yes. The Egyptians have been using tunnels under the Egyptian/Israeli border in the Gaza area to smuggle arms to the Palestinians. If Israel loses control, the flood gates of arms smuggling are wide open.

Attempts to close the tunnels with explosives have resulted in clouds of dust and smoke from police facilities on the Egyptian side. There are no "good guys" on the Egpytian side.

So then Sharon shortens his lines by abandoning the Gaza. Then he digs in on the West Bank and tells the Palestinians to bugger off. At least, that is my general understanding.

It sounds like Sharon might be only one in the neighborhood with a workable plan.

Land taken in a defensive war should not be given back.

Period.
