Good question. I was just reading how Ward Churchill's statements should be considered treason.
I wonder how many of those posters felt the same way when it was Clinton in the White House?

How about an "I'm not with stupid" sign?

If you hung an effigy of Arafat in your front yard, would you feel free when this guy tears it down and takes it away?

Ah, absentee slumlords making a political statement. How convenient that they chose a home they themselves do not live in.

I've got 50 bucks that says if it had been a black man hanging in effigy, instead of a soldier, this would be a very, very different story.

Absent some homeowner's deed restriction or some valid city ordinance, this jackass had the right to hang a soldier in effigy on his front lawn. How wise that was remains to be determined because if it's wrong to tear it down, it's also wrong to firebomb his house, and intentionally provoking a physical response to an action is rarely prudent.
While it wasn't very tolerant to tear down the effigy, it was far more stupid to put it up. It was like committing the dreaded hate crime in your own yard so that you could get away with it.

Good point. As much as I detest the view these people hold about our soldiers, our country, and our way of life, they have to be granted the right to express it, or we all lose. The way to combat it is to confront it with our own voice. I think I heard something to this effect on either Hannity or Rush today and it struck a chord with me.
In the old days, I would want to hit them as hard as I could right between the eyes. Now I guess I have to learn the fine art of debate, or at least refutation.

I seem to recall that the First Amendment right to free speech doesn't extend to shouting "FIRE" in a crowded theater ... or somethin' like that.

Heck - just try putting a cross on your lawn - if you REALLY want some excitement - light it - electrically or so it burns REAL bright. Want to talk about getting attention! It is amazing to me that you can put a crucifix in urine or use crap to create a picture of the Virgin Mary and it is art - but if you put up an American flag as they did on the streets of Amherst, MA I believe - and the ACLU and leftwingnuts fall all over themselves to designate it a HATE crime. Apparently, free speech only works when it is aimed against people of faith, conservatives and anything right about America.

C'mon now, who hangs effigies? Trouble-making leftists and muslim fanatics. I understand your point and reasoning but must say that more and more lately I am of the feeling that people who are looking for trouble ought to find it.
Though the soul curdling HATE in this act of hanging an effigy of a soldier may actually provide an argument for standing back and waiting--these sick people necessarily are going to explode and go WAY over the top if they don't change course at some point.

KCRA 3 received a call late Wednesday morning from the homeowner saying that a group of people had torn down the display. He said that what he did was not illegal, but what was done by the people who removed the display was.
Ah. "Little Eichmanns" who claim that what they did was good because it is perfectly legal.

That's part of my point. Let's let them self-destruct, while we sit back and laugh. Let's remain vigilant and raise our voices in refutation, when necessary,(like putting hundreds of GI Joe Dolls on the lawn next door). When your enemy is hellbent on self desruction, get out of the way and let him do it.

Arafat was/is a POS; the GIs are dying to protect your country (and that is a difference that makes a difference.)

In other words, you don't understand it.
And you had to use TEN exclamation points to emphasize that.
OK.
