NORRISTOWN -- President George W. Bush is coming to Montgomery County to win public support for his plan to strengthen Social Security.

The president is scheduled to hold a "Conversation on Strengthening Social Security" late Thursday afternoon at the Montgomery County Community College, which is located in the 300 block of DeKalb Pike (Rt. 202) in Whitpain.

During his televised State of the Union address Feb. 2, Bush told Congress and the nation that, unless reforms are implemented, Social Security is headed for bankruptcy. One of the controversial reforms he has proposed would allow younger workers to divert Social Security revenue to voluntary personal retirement accounts that they could invest at higher rates of interest.

The Montgomery County Republican Committee has about 100 tickets remaining for those who want to attend the event, according to county GOP Executive Director Adam Gattuso.

Persons interested in obtaining a ticket can contact county GOP headquarters at 610-279-9300.

Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, said Gattuso.

This is Bush’s first visit to the county since he won reelection last November.

The president was last in the county on Sept. 22 when he and first lady Laura Bush participated in an hour-long town meeting at the Valley Forge Convention Center in Upper Merion.

The president’s mother, former first lady Barbara Bush, appeared at a rally at the community college last October to drum up support for her son’s reelection bid

Anyone going?

It is near my office, so I'm taking my 9-yr old daughter. I also got tickets for two of my friends.

Are you kidding me? Why do I have to be stuck up here with the ultra-libs everytime he visits where I live?

I'll call in the morning and see whether there are any tickets left. I'd like to go if I can manage around the kids' schedules.
