Actually I think being attractive actually has more to do with it than race.
If it was an overweight, acne-scarred white woman it wouldn't be news. The key is having the little pic to show of the smiling attractive woman. See the Peterson case.
People consider it far more of a tragedy, and feel much more empathy, when an attractive person is killed.
But the comments from editors like "Race never even entered my mind!" are disingenous at best.
I think you're right. But then again, what does more or less news coverage matter to a person who is already dead?
Beautiful Hollywood starlets get more ink and press than equally-talented but unattractive actresses at the local theater. That's life.
