I wonder if they are trying to get payback for memogate

No problem as long as they spell the URL right.

He-LOOOOoooo?

They posted this piece yesterday about how if you post to blogs, your boss will fire you.

The message was, "Do memogate to us again, and your boss finds out."

the rumors must not have been substantiated since I never saw the thread. seems FR did its job, the manure fell off to the bottom. a fact lost on CBS. Even with this story, FR has far more credibility than any news program at CBS.

The original poster of the thread stated that it was a rumor and the purpose of an FR thread on the subject was to try to fact check.

Thanks for your input. And to those who replied questioning why I would post rumors and the fact that I live over 1000 miles away........I'm from MD, go back frequently and have family and many friends living there. As to why I would post a rumor ---- I have always found FreeRepublic the best place to find the truth. Who better to ask than freepers? I'm searching for the accurate story - not just spreading rumors as some have implied................. 16 posted on 08/13/2004 10:49:19 AM PDT by Elkiejg

In regards to false stories:

At Free Republic, thread posters ask, "Is this true?"

At CBS, Dan Rather states, "This IS true."

Ok. Here's a prediction without even going over there. The DUmmies are going to post "Prince of Darkness" is a Freeper. Then they'll post a bunch of "well, that place is hell" type posts. It will continue on until people start posting how we all deserve to go to hell , boil in oil, burn in sulfur , etc. It will end in a group hug about how they are so caring and super-intelligent. Anyone want to bet against my predictions? Or add to them?

Oh, man. You hit the jackpot dead on!

Don't drink the SeeBS koolaid. Do your own research right here on FR. I'll make it ridiculously easy for you. Click here: (FR Search for NCPAC by poster)

Thanks, CBG.

The term "disgruntled former employees" come to mind as far as some of the impetus for this search on me. However, the few folks I talked to are astonished that my screen name was uncovered - and it wasn't even THAT big of a deal, as concerns what I actually said in the post. I didn't start any rumor, I was commenting on rumors that were out there. What IS a big deal is the perception - and the fact O'Malley would have hammered the Governor over the head with me for the next 20 months.

Thanks for your well wishes. I'll be fine, of this I have no doubt.

Again, I state, the Governor had no knowledge of any of this

In that thread is a link to the actual "rumor" thread to which NCPAC commented upon, mildly BTW. That NCPAC did the right thing with respect to the Governor is admirable. I'd be concerned about the volume of howling directed towards NCPAC. Methinks it is to divert attention from the underlying indiscretion, and I don't mean NCPAC's. Has anyone followed through on the "seriousness of the charge?"

Our problem now is stopping this guy from parlaying this into the Governors mansion, and that wont be easy, Any Baltimore Democrat will be hard to beat as he automatically wins Baltimore city , Prince Georges and Montgommery Counties. Ehrlich is doing a fine job and he didnt hesitate toget riod of this problem when he heard of it, We have to work hard to elect him again.

Both of those points have been written in every story about this that I've read.

Do you know something the rest of us don't? Are you gonna share?

Hopefully, FR's management did, at least indirectly. If JimRob was able to identify the perp from his registration info or by other legal means, and then connect him to these posts, I think he'd have been well within his rights to pass on the info to any legitimate party, including major media outlets (though I can't really see JimRob passing it to the Wash. Post), law enforcement, or representatives of the Ehrlich administration. If I'd done what NCPAC did, I couldn't reasonably expect JimRob to protect my identity, after I'd used his site to post false and damaging personal information about a political opponent.

NCPAC

I wonder what his "join" date was?

I have always believed in the strongest possible terms that no one is a "Freeper" until he has been a member and posted with some semblance of knowledge and common sense for at least 6 months.

re: "They call me the Prince of Darkness," he told the newspaper. )))

This is a line from the old sixties melodrama, "Inside Daisy Clover"--starring Natalie Wood as an exploited adolescent actress.

Every I-Net savvy person knows that anyone can post anything on a Blog, even DU.......

Free Republic is not a BLOG. Fortunately.
But the same holds true (at least for a short while) at forums.

I've got the 6 month part covered. I don't know about the other parts though.

O'Malley said Steffen's activities were part of a "concerted and orchestrated and sustained" effort to smear him.

Really bugs them when the shoe is on the other foot, don't it? LOL

There is no smear here. FR is associated with internet rumors. Some true, some not.

You mean like this one?

.Al Zarqawi captured! (CCXDVII)

No, but I've read what NCPAC posted last year about this issue, and I've read what he has written on threads here in the past day or so. I don't see any indication that he fueled any of the rumors, and I don't see any indication that he admitted to fueling any rumors.

IIRC, he has said that he resigned in order to keep the governor from being dragged further into the thing, as the governor wasn't aware of any of it in the first place.

Unless you can point me to his direct statements or posts that contradict those facts, that's that.
