The left set out to destroy Jeff because he made the mistake of showing up with the White House Press Corp, and didn't spew the traditional bile-laden vomit and throw feces on the President and the administration. And for that reason, he was fair game for destruction.
He was fair game to be followed; fair game to have business associates bribed; fair game to have anyone and anything around him called, questioned, investigated; fair game to be pick pocketed to discern his identity; fair game to stage a car accident with so as to obtail his real name; fair game for his family to be harrassed.
Its all fair game because the left is the party of hate, their ideology is hateful and their activity is motivated by their hate. The have no interest in diversity of opinions, their moving animus is to silence any and all opposion via the politics of personal distruction.
This episode should put fear in the hearts of any journalist in this country because if they step over the line, a group flying moon-bats will take them out.
The only goal here was to destroy another human being. That is what the left is about, destroying people who step out of line, kind of like Stalin and Mao did.
So, while it is unfortunate that Jeff was their victim, this is a useful opportunity to gain insight into the way the leftist mind (oxymoron?) works: their goal is complete conformity with their agenda by any means necessary and if a few human beings are collateral damage, no big whoop.

C'mon folks, we starting to sound like the CBS defenders here. Jeff messed up - he didn't check his facts. And that sets one up for a lot of trouble in a combative situation like the blogsphere has with the media - and that cuts both ways.

There were suggestions made that these were things that would give them Jeff's real name, which apparently was a big deal. How many other journalists use pen names anyway? Wolf Blitzer anyone?
Initially, the thinking was if they could find out what his real name was, which naturally would be something like "John Rove" or "Fred Bush" if "Jeff Gannon" wasn't a CIA collective fronting for Chimpy Bushco, they could bust the administration with it.
The focus quickly moved from catching the adminstration for planting a shill, to simply going after Jeff. They haven't pinned anything on the adminstration, they just took out a reporter for a small publication.
There are other non-MSM at those press briefings. I think LaRouche has some reporter in there. In fact some of the press corp are clearly partisan, but there is no objection to as long as they are the right kind of partisan.
