A failure to fact check one time is an error. It is not a cause for resignation, especially if it was an honest mistake and not a deliberate attempt to deceive.

Why should one error cause someone to post that he is leaving "for the welfare of his family?"

I am not going to get sidetracked by arguing about the quote. THAT isn't the reason for Gannon's quitting.

It should still not be rationalized away because lib journalists do it.

We do not know what that means. I'll wait and see what shakes out from this story before passing judgement. But Gannon put the target on his own back by failing to check his facts - and once that target is situated, it can be very difficult to remove.
