Jeff Gannon
A Voice of the New Media
The voice goes silent.
Because of the attention being paid to me I find it is no longer possible to effectively be a reporter for Talon News. In consideration of the welfare of me and my family I have decided to return to private life.
Thank you to all those who supported me.

He was fair game to be followed; fair game to have business associates bribed; fair game to have anyone and anything around him called, questioned, investigated; fair game to be pick pocketed to discern his identity; fair game to stage a car accident with so as to obtail his real name; fair game for his family to be harrassed. C'mon folks, we starting to sound like the CBS defenders here. Jeff messed up - he didn't check his facts. And that sets one up for a lot of trouble in a combative situation like the blogsphere has with the media - and that cuts both ways.

Ah, so this is your variant of the CBS "documents make not be real but the underlying story is true" defense? Nice try their dirt, but you and I know that the current rhetoric of the democrats is that the economy is in the toilet, but social security is fine, is true, and that was what Jeff Gannon's question addresssed.

Ah, so this is your variant of the CBS "documents make not be real but the underlying story is true" defense? Not comparable. Gannon's sin was on a much lower scale. Reid did, in fact, speak of the economy in dire terms and would not dispute that fact himself.

I am waiting to hear if dio was speculating or if she knows something.
As far as I know, no freepers are bribing business associates of Eason Jordan, nor are they threatening his family.

A little thing like 9/11 is what happened to those predictions. You're a sad case.

Good question. I think this discussion about Jeff's mistake is 1. a diversion and 2. conveniently appeared AFTER the resiggnation.
I have seen no references to this error anywhere except here.
To: dirtboy
Thanks for that ping; I remember that question well and it was the example I was giving my husband a few minutes ago.

Jim lets us keep her for a pet. Oh, sure. It's all fun and games until somebody has to clean the cage. Do you know the landfill won't take that stuff?
Somebody's gonna hafta drive through Massachusetts with it in an open trailer again.

I am really distressed by this news. I thought Jeff Gannon was the best reporter at the WH press briefings.

Exactly. If anyone listened to Rush, they'd know he frequently uses the 'soup line' description to paint a mental image of how the Democrats try to paint our economic condition.

Good news! The Ronald Reagan postage stamp goes on sale today!!!!!
To: dirtboy
And to be accurate, Gannon never claimed in his question that what he said was a quote. It's incredibly sloppy journalism, but on a very low scale.
To: AmishDude
Good points. Just what we need on FR -- someone who falls for the MSM spin and is a rumor monger.

he is proud he completely made up stuff atrributed to Harry Reid and then Mr. Gannon quotes the misquote without providing a source during a whitehouse briefing
Is that something like Rather and his minions?......

MurryMom is kept around here for the same reason that Helen Thomas is kept around the White House press room - humor breaks.

ReadTheFinePrint didn't want to admit to having only left-wing sites (and a Google search suggests this affair has them all a-twitter) so couched them as "rumors". The other newbie at least directed us to Kos.
