Legislature Passes Restrictions on Affordable-Housing in Development

Both houses of the General Assembly have passed bills that would prohibit localities from requiring developers to contribute to affordable-housing trust funds or provide affordable-housing units as part of the development process.
The bills are a swipe at Arlington County, which last year enacted legislation to do just that. The new rules, which county officials said were voluntary but critics contended were mandatory, were summarily tossed out in December by Circuit Court Judge Joanne Alper. County officials say they plan to appeal her ruling.
The Senate bill, sponsored by Loudoun Republican Sen. Bill Mims, passed by a 24-16 vote. The House bill, sponsored by Fairfax Republican Del. Gary Reese, passed by a 73-24 vote.
All the members of Arlington's legislative delegation voted against the bills with the exception of Del. Marian Van Landingham, D-45th, who is not attending the legislative session due to illness.

The City of Tallahassee Florida forced the same issue on developers. As a part of the development they were forced to built low rent housing.
The end result is a nice neighborhood with delapidated housing and thugs "liberally" sprinkled in for entertainment purposes.

Tallahassee could mess up Paradise ~ in many instances blending in so-called "affordable housing" means nothing more than an opportunity for someone's retired elderly parents to move into a smaller place in the same neighborhood with the grandkids.
One of my rich relatives was actually able to keep her maid/nanny nearby rather than across town on a 1 hour commute.
