Yes, illegal. You may not legally execute spies, saboteurs or terrorists without a trial. Period. End of story. Anyone who tries to tell you differently doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

Uh. Thanks for addressing a point that I didn't make.

I was alluding to the fact that combatants without uniforms or command structure are not covered by Geneva Conventions. What goes on after that is a different argument that you can have with someone else.

My point is that we have yet to publicly and clearly and repetitively differentiated between Geneva-covered combatants and terrorists up front.

The administration has made that difference clear numerous times. In any event, it is a distinction with little practical difference. POWs have no legal right to counsel to determine their status and terrorists aren't supposed to be tortured or summarily executed.

I suppose it would be helpful if the media ever bothered to inform itself about the topics they report, but that isn't in the administration's control.
