one leftist I can make some common cause with is Christopher Hitchens, who seems to want to dish away politics in the name of actually helping people's lives get better. And that includes the advancement of democracy abroad. I guess it appeals to my Catholic call to help the less fortunate.

Hitchens called Fahrenheit 9/11 a 'work of moral cowardice' and savaged Clinton for selling out liberalism in the name of his own 'ruthless ego.'

Hitchens, Falacci, O'Dowd; there are a courageous few-among the left wing intelligentsia-who have evoked a clarity of vision that is rarely found among their brethren. For that, we should be grateful.

I'm not the most observant of Roman Catholics, but I appreciate them, all the same.
