Last Friday when promoting social security reform with 'regular' citizens in Omaha, Nebraska, President Bush walked into an awkward unscripted moment in which he stated that carrying three jobs at a time is 'uniquely American.'
While talking with audience participants, the president met Mary Mornin, a woman in her late fifties who told the president she was a divorced mother of three, including a 'mentally challenged' son.
The President comforted Mornin on the security of social security stating that 'the promises made will be kept by the government.'
But without prompting Mornin began to elaborate on her life circumstances.
Begin transcript:
MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute.
THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?
MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.
THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)

That's another point. Buying a home you can't afford and having kids you can't afford. More bankruptcies and whining.... all on the backs of people like me with common sense who know they can't afford every little thing and who would teach their kids how to work for their own toys instead of easing my 'guilt' as you put it.
No...it's HOT.
You wouldn't be the VS model, would you?
You must get on well with people around you and you sound just like a socialist. "Since I didnt have it nobody else should either." "So therefore lets have the government supply their needs."
All I'm saying is quit buying things you can't afford...because the rest of us can't afford to bail you out.
I am buying them?
And if I were buying them who the hell said I would ask anyone to bail me out?
One thing I did learn from my dad, is that if you got yourself into it, you get yourself out.
Eleven years ago I was paying $125.00 a week during the summer for day care for one child. That was about average.
Ya, and poor French children who have to put up with parents at lunch and during those generous vacations. They will never know the joy of running amuck, unsupervised.
This is a small excerpt of a conversation with Mrs. Mornin. She said afterwards that the president was very personable and that he made her feel comfortable. She also said that she agreed with his social security plan.
Also, all three of her childen are grown adults. She was very well dressed and her hair was well styled. She was not looking for sympathy but was more likely proud of her hard work.
What's up with DRUDGE?
Yes? What it has to do with the topic?
If folks could see how good she looked they wouldn't feel so sorry for her. She deserves praise, not pity. You can't tell that from a written report.
Hard to say how bad.. skimpy info.. Heck, on next to no info some here tried roasting me alive with all sort of assumptions, slurs and slams because my retort to trade policy
threatened there ability to profit from screwing america. Why hold back? I mean, it's obvious the economy is booming now that we are outsourcing all our middle class jobs - to the point this woman has to work three jobs to get by. Frankly, I'm amazed she could find three jobs in this climate. One of my neighbors was out of work for 5 months without so much as a call for an interview. I've been looking for 6 months without a call.
Point is, they're throwing us out of work then telling America these are jobs Americans don't want to do. It's a bold faced, agenda oriented monstrous LIE. And the president is repeating it - if not the author of it. Maybe the old Clinton chum is rubbing off on this guy. They both have lying down as a means to an end. And this party really doesn't care what America has to put up with so long as they get theres by screwing the rest of us IMO. They're no better than the Dims. Treacherous lying traitors all.
You should stop and think logically before you post.
How do you know she's "busting her ass"? How many hours a week does she work? Most likely tons of people across this nation work as long and hard, or longer and harder, at *one* job.
And why would you be happy if she were? If she paid far less in taxes, maybe she wouldn't have to work 3 jobs.
It's great she's working, great if she's not on welfare, but we're all doing that too.
If you want to look like an idiot flaming me for stating the obvious, whatever floats your boat.
If you want to think she's more "special" than you are, fine. It'd just mean you're lazier than she is. But don't assume the rest of us are like that too.
See #114.
You ran off at the mouth about every little thing that just crossed your mind and yet you didn't address the one thing I had addressed you on. Brilliant.
I think it's a waste of time to address emotional gibberish. If you can't think logically on this issue, please don't post to me again.
I did that many years ago. I worked two jobs 7 days a week and worked my University classes around the work day of 5 days a week.
Had no life. Don't know how she can do it with kids.
It isnt uniquely American. People in third world countries typically have 2 and 3 jobs. I mean places like Honduras, ghana, etc...
