Reports: McNabb Sick During Crucial Part Of Super Bowl
AP ^ | February 8, 2005

Posted on 02/08/2005 11:49:37 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was so ill in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl that a teammate had to call a play in the huddle, center Hank Fraley said.

"He fought to the end," Fraley told Comcast SportsNet on Monday. "He gave it his all. He was almost puking in the huddle. One play had to be called by (wideout) Freddie Mitchell because Donovan was mumbling because he was almost puking."

Offensive lineman Jon Runyan also echoed Fraley's comments in the same interview aired on two local radio stations on Tuesday after the Comcast report.

McNabb was shaky in Philadelphia's 24-21 loss to the England Patriots on Sunday, throwing for 357 yards and three touchdowns, was also getting picked off three times.

McNabb misfired on several passes early, held the ball too long in other instances and made several poor decisions. One of the best scramblers in the NFL, McNabb had zero yards rushing on just one carry and was sacked four times.

An Eagles spokesman did not immediately return a phone call Tuesday.

He threw 5, the Pats dropped 2 that were right in their chest.

Rush never criticized McNabb. His comments were directed at the media who Rush said were over hyping McNabb because they wanted a black quarterback to succeed.

That's true, but the net result is that half of FR has become rabid McNabb-haters in the hopes of justifying their idol Rush. That's unfortunate and not fair to McNabb, who's not a bad guy.

One was called back on a penalty. Then McNabb threw an even worse pass on the next play that was intercepted.

Drudge: Players say McNabb tried to throw up during 4th quarter.

DCPatriot says after watching McNabb in the closing minutes...he tried to throw up too!

Actually another point that seems to have gotten lost is the Pats' loss of Eugene Wilson to injury midway through the game.

Their defensive secondary was already decimated and the loss of Wilson was huge but they somehow were able to overcome that loss. They deserve a lot of credit just for that alone.

He's really strong. That helped him in NFL Europe. He's hard to sack. He's not real mobile, though, and he can't pass accurately. He has a cannon like Favre, though.

Maybe next year the Patriots safeties will be able to play an entire Super Bowl.

"Is your comment due to the influence of drugs "

Maybe not drugs but a good Rofosco.....:)

IMHO...The Eagles had a weak schedule...look whom is in the Division....McNabb is a good athlete just a poor QB...quite a few pro football players come out of college as QB's and end up playing other positions...McNabb is a media Great Black Hope....he shouldn't be playing quarterback...if I had the protection...I could throw 31 TDs...sheesh...

I think Roethlisberger played a better game against the Pats.

So New England has the Lombardi Trophy

The what trophy? I thought I heard someone say they were in the process of renaming it the Belichick Trophy.

Chris Collingsworth, "If Philadelphia is going to win, it will be by the passing of McNabb" (a media type PROVES what Rush said...the media will give McNabb all the credit if they win).

Uh, no, it isn't the media giving McNabb all of the credit; it's recognition of the fact that the Patriots had a running game and the Eagles did not. Other than McNabb's passing, Philly had no offense. That's a fact.

Also, plenty of people in the media are dumping all over McNabb after the loss, so that should be taken into account also.

He will never be called "Big Game Donovan".

Reference to "Big Game James Worthy", who always managed to have his best games in the crunch. I played sports a lot, lost a few but won a few too. I know what it's like to choke.

Wowsers. That would be like when the Aussies won the America's Cup and were going to run over it with a bulldozer and call it the Australian Plate. Just doesn't sound the same. Just d*mn...

I think McNabb is overrated for one simple reason...
He can't perform under pressure.

He's sort of like Drew Bledsoe in that sense (obviously much MUCH more mobile). But the same poor decision making. The same dead duck INT's. The same telegraphing of his passes. The same deer in the headlight look.

1-4 in Championship games, with a slew of INTs = Overrated.

All this criticism of McNabb! While the SB was clearly not his best game, he played a hell of a lot better against the Patriots than QBs like Manning. If nobody elese wants him, I would love to see McNabb play for my Broncos. In fact there are a lot of parallels to McNabb and Elway such as their styles of play, the types of criticism they have received, and they way they handle themselves with class on and off the field.
