"Here's a quiz.

Israel is: a) a Jewish supremacist state, b) the worst human-rights abuser in the Middle East, c) a major factor preventing the democratization of the Arab region, or d) all of the above.

If you answered "d," you would fit right in at a core-curriculum course at Columbia University taught by an assistant professor of modern Arab politics, Joseph Massad, who is a rising star of the university's Department of Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures.

Mr. Massad, author of the forthcoming book "The Persistence of the Palestinian Question," is best known as one of the Columbia scholars whose alleged mistreatment of Jewish students is at the center of a campus controversy that has attracted national attention from Jewish and academic leaders.

Though the dispute has focused on allegations of intimidation and harassment of students, the more common criticism brought up by students of Mr. Massad has to do not with the appropriateness of his conduct, but with the quality and content of his teaching.

Students of his say he is relentless in his condemnations of Israel and America, even in a course he taught in the fall called Topics in Asian Civilization, in which Israel, at least according to the syllabus, plays only a minor role." SNIP

the worst human-rights abuser in the Middle East

I hear this sort of crap being thrown out now and then. I can't imagine that defending oneself against mindless unwashed who blow themselves up in Ice-cream palors and Pizza Shops intentionally targetting woman and children get second billing here.

At any rate, I got mad at this point so now I'll read the next line. : )

I'll read my post first next time, too.

I can't imagine that defending oneself against mindless unwashed who blow themselves up in Ice-cream palors and Pizza Shops intentionally targetting woman and children is considered abusing human rights. I also find it hard to believe that the terrorists mentioned above get second billing here.

This is something that the usual suspects might want to chew on.

Later in the course, according to the notes, Mr. Massad argued that Zionism did not preserve Jewish culture and failed as a political movement because of the amount of violence that Jews have suffered since Israel's founding. "Israel today place where Jews are most likely to be killed due to anti-Semitism," Ms. Weiss wrote.

Or to be forcibly expelled from your home simply because you are a Jew.

I don't think he's tenured yet. I couldn't find any mention of it in the article, he's still at the junior rank of "assistant professor," and his colleagues are trying to remove him from the fray (probably to tenure him quietly before unleashing him on students in all his nutty glory).

It's one thing to be a nasty anti-Semitic, pro-Jihad lunatic. Quite another to be a nasty anti-Semitic, pro-Jihad lunatic with a university sinecure. Tenure makes you a bullet proof prof

I'm sick of these people being on our campus' and filling our kids minds with this crap. I don't care if they are tenured or not, they need to be shipped off to Iraq on a slow boat.
