YES! Dad's always been a big sci-fi fan so I saw a lot of that stuff growing up!

As far as series go, I would have to vote for Firefly, Farscape, and Babylon 5, in no particular order. Each of these had outstanding writing and really good casts. Unfortunately, each of them were also doomed by extremely poor programming decisions. Moving the broadcasts around, deciding at the last moment to cancel them.

I have started to like the new version of Battlestar Galactica. I wasn't that impressed with the mini-series that introduced it, but the series itself has started to grow on me.
