The Other Peterson Walks Free

Brian Peterson — the privileged New Jersey youth who made headlines in 1996 when he and his girlfriend Amy Grossberg killed their newborn baby — is out of jail, married to another woman, and living in Florida.

He spoke to The Post recently as he and his wife Jaime took a stroll in the town of Jupiter with their two dogs — and showed he was in no way marking the short life of his son.

"It was seven years ago," Brian Peterson said when approached outside his swank townhouse.

The significant date to him was apparently July 1998 — when Peterson, along with his Wyckoff, N.J., high school sweetheart, copped a manslaughter plea and began prison terms for killing their newborn son.

Grossberg, meanwhile, has kept a low profile since her May 2000 release from prison, where she served 24 months of a 30-month sentence. Records show she is still living in the pricey Wyckoff townhouse of her parents, Alan and Sonje — who, from the time of their daughter's arrest and through her sentencing — maintained Amy "did nothing wrong." A gifted artist, Grossberg launched her own company, called Just Because Invitations, last February. At her sentencing, Grossberg — who had denied her pregnancy, denied giving birth, and then blamed Peterson for killing the baby — nevertheless pleaded for leniency and told the judge, "I want to help others. I want to make a difference."

The parents of these two murderers have done them a huge disservice in not making them face the consequences of their actions.

Most striking to me is that he found a woman to actually MARRY HIM. She must have some serious issues.

That's right. But the fact that this sentence stirred so little outrage at the time--at least, in the circles that count--really set the tone for public discussion of the many, many baby murders which followed. Nowadays, it's amazing if a baby-killer gets more than "community service." First, the unborn didn't count. Now, the just-recently-born don't count either. It's Peter Singer's dreamland, and snotty Brian Peterson is a fitting symbol of it.

Very good question indeed. They should have at leas sterilized him before letting him go.
Any Freepers in Jupiter should be on the lookout for this guy.
