...more terror attacks may be necessary to radicalize Americans to fight the misuse of U.S. power."

It never occurs to him that, if we are really as terrible as he thinks we are, that additional terror attacks might just push us over the edge into genocide? After all, we are the country that:

* almost completely exterminated the Native Americans inside our borders

* firebombed Dresden into a firestorm that killed literally all of its inhabitants

* reduced every major city in Germany to rubble (I went to Berlin before the wall came down, and saw what was left of East Berlin (which had not been rebuilt the way West Berlin had been)

* firebombed Tokyo into a firestorm that killed tens of thousands in one night

* dropped, not just one, but TWO atomic devices on Japan, incinereating complete cities, and then threatened to keep dropping them on every city of Japan until they agreed to an unconditional surrender

* shelled a column of about 10,000 refugees on a road in Korea with 155mm howitzers because it was hiding less than 1000 North Korean soldiers trying to break through our lines, resulting in the death of thousands of civilian refugees

* built over 100,000 atomic warheads for possible use against every major city (and military installation) in the Soviet Union, with the objective of reducing an entire continent to contaminated rubble if the Russians attacked us

Seriously, the best thing this guy could do is to convince the Militant Islamists, and the so called Moderates as well, that we may be polite and patient and seem like "girlymen", but if they don't stop provoking us, paraphrasing the words of Admiral Yamamoto, they will "awaken a giant and fill him with terrible resolve".

For example, if a rogue sect of Islam contaminates one of our cities with a radioactive "dirty bomb", they may find a rogue sect of Christians might contaminate a certain religeous site in Saudi Arabia with enough radioactivity to make a Haj a suicide event for the next 1000 years.

I am reminded of a story I read many years ago in which a witch hunter in the 1600s caught a young woman and tortured her to get her to confess being a witch. Finally the young woman, tired of the pain, confessed that she was in fact a witch. Then she looked left and the shackles came off; she looked right and the shakles came off; she looked at her feet, and the shackles came off. She looked at her torturer and said, "And now for you, little man!"...

The moral of the story was, if there really were witches, the last thing in the world you would ever want to do would be to find one and make them angry.

Many of Islam claim that the US is the Great Satan --- would they continue to provoke us if they really believed that we truly were evil ... especially since we still have so many ICBMs with HBomb warheads?? If we truly were as evil as they say they think we are ... what would stop us from blowing up more than 1 billion people in order to get at the 10 million that are dedicated to our destruction?

I have to conclude that these people are literally insane, because ... on the one hand, they believe that we are so evil that they must kill thousands of us ... and yet they believe that we will restrain ourselves from killing the 90% of the Muslim population in order to kill the 10% that are attacking us.

It is a good point you raise, and a similar one I've made to Leftists in America proclaiming that we are a police state that suppresses all those who dissent from president Bush's views.

Were that true, one would fear to whine about the President on online chat boards, or at least in public demonstrations...

The response I've seen by the Left has been silence. Leftists don't address the point, and frankly, one has a hard time coming away with any belief other then that they know deep down they are lying.

Islamists may be a very different story though, and I've never seen a forum of any sort where the question you address to them has been asked.

Certainly the United States could nuke Mecca tommorrow, or with a bit more difficulty, destroy the entirety of the Arabic world. What then is staying our hand if not some level of humanitarianism?

This guy is a stupid member of the "Unholy Alliance" as described by David Horowitz in his book:

***********************************************************************

Unholy Alliance
by David Horowitz
Regnery Publishing, Inc.; ISBN: 089526076X
Hardcover - 256 pages (September 2004)

In this tour de force on the most important issue of our time, David Horowitz, confronts the paradox of how so many Americans, including the leadership of the Democratic Party, could turn against the War on Terror. He finds an answer in a political Left that shares a view of America as the “Great Satan” with America’s radical Islamic enemies. This Left, which once made common cause with Communists, has now joined forces with radical Islam in attacking America’s defenses at home and its policies abroad. From their positions of influence in the university and media culture, leftists have defined America as the “root cause” of the attacks against it. In a remarkable exploration of the “Mind of the Left,” Horowitz traces the evolution of American radicalism from its Communist past to its “anti-war” present. He then shows how this Left was able to turn the Democratic Party presidential campaign around and reshape its views on the War on Terror.

Horowitz’s Unholy Alliance, writes John Haynes, the noted historian of American Communism, “is an insightful, brilliant examination of the mental world of the radical left. Horowitz shows how today’s radicals, unwilling to reflect on the internal flaws that destroyed Marxism-Leninism from within, have embraced an all-consuming nihilism in its place. This has led them to a hatred of American institutions and a solidarity with Islamic terrorists that makes the radical left more properly regarded as dangerous than loony.”

Unholy Alliance is an eye-opening book that should unsettle conventional assumptions and reveals why intellectuals and political leaders who applaud Michael Moore are no laughing matter. As Harvey Klehr, author of Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America, writes, “The world Communist movement may be moribund, but its habits of mind and ideological fantasies have not disappeared. This is a fascinating and depressing account.”
