. . . "It's 33 years overdue," said Robert Lee, a creative director at Publicis Groupe's Kaplan Thaler Group, of the Anheuser spot, referring to the cold reception that Vietnam veterans often got after returning from that war. Still, some viewers were a little uneasy with the corporate flag-waving. "It would have been better if it was a PSA, a public-service announcement, and not a BSA, beer-service announcement," said Tom Amico, a creative director at Kaplan. . . .

I was never personally and physically spat upon when i returned from Vietnam, but many were. This was a great super bowl ad. The only "corporate flag" waving was a very brief "Anheuser-Bush" at the end. You can write AB to thank them for this long over due thanks for troops returning from Viewtnam at this link: http://contactus.anheuser-busch.com/contactus/default.asp?site=IA

If I remember correctly, there are no recorded examples of people spitting on returning Vietnam vets. There was a thread on FR about it a few years back.

It was an excellent ad. I'd like to see more like it. I think the fact that it wasn't a PSA made it all that much better.

i am constantly amazed at how stupid people are willing to sound in order to attempt to discredit greatness. I was awed by the commercial, as was everybody at my house. It was a great ad, as shown by the lunacy of those trying to detract from it.

Then why did it take a beer company to think of it and get it made, Tom?
