Leaving to the side the role of woman - who are subservient in all three monothiestic religions (Jewish, Christian and Islam) - Additionally, Protestants are highly interested in the "common man" (and woman and child) having easy and complete access to the Word. Or in other words, a layperson like myself can pick up the Bible and read, study, analyze, and draw conclusions from the exact same thing our pastors or deacons are drawing from.

Then Islam is 100% identical in that regard to Protestants - that's why Islamic schools exist so the common man can learn to read and understand the Koran on his own.

Your thought on the "subservience of women" in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam could be the fodder for a whole new thread! Again, it is an easy generalization to make, but no doubt there are many many specific differences.

I'm not sure about Jewish women, but Protestant women have total access to everything (the Bible, clergy, various written resources, etc.) Protestant men do, except for (in some denominations) ordination.

Are you saying that Muslim women have that too?

No it doesn't. In Sunni Islam they have Hadith, which is Tradition and considered authoritative. The Shiites regard the Imams as authoritative, and although the last one is "hidden", they do have a clerical hierarchy.

I'm not jumping in your discussion with k2blader but if you are going to make a statement, make sure you know what you are talking about.

Islam does not preach SOLA SCRIPTURA. They teach the Koran and the Hadiths (some are given more importance than others). The Hadiths were written by others(including Mohammed's child-wife) that included new rules and such that Mohammed supposedly said, liked, disapproved of, etc. The Prostetant church does not resemble this arrangement at all. Hadiths would be closer to your Traditions.

According to this site, there are 10,000 Hadiths and second only to the Koran.
