Donovan McNabb Comes Up Shaky in the Big Game
MSNBC ^ | 1:20 AM Feb. 7, 2005 | Associated Press

It looked like Donovan McNabb saved his jitters for the Super Bowl. McNabb spent the week telling jokes, being loose and insisting that he felt no pressure leading the Philidelphia Eagles versus the New England Patriots.

But the five time pro bowl QB had a shaky performance in the most important game of his career Sunday, a 24-21 loss to the Patriots. McNabb turned the ball over three times, including crucial interceptions in the first and fourth quarters.

McNabb misfired on several passes early, held the ball too long in other instance and made several poor decisions. One of the best scramblers in the National Football League, McNabb had zero yards rushing on just one carry.

McNabb rebounded from his rough start with a strong second quarter, finally leading the Eagles into the end zone after sqandering several scoring opportunities. But he made a critical error midway through the 4th quarter right after the Pats took at 24-14 lead.

After he connected with Terell Owens on a 36 yard pass, McNabb badly underthrew his reciever Smith on the next play and was intercepted by linebacker Tedy Bruschi.

McNabb had the best season of his six year career, leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl for the first time in 24 years after three consecutive losses in the NFC title game. But McNabb couldn't deliver the Eagles first championship since 1960.

It will be interesting to see how the Pats perform without their stalwart assistant coaches on offense and defense gone.

Colts-Eagles ,Chiefs-Eagles or Steelers-Eagles would be just as good a game!

80's Cowboys, 90's 49ers

Methinks you may have those decades reversed...

The Eagles should have been chugging Gator Ade throughout the game.

Or pickle juice.

Not fair to compare McNabb with Montana.

Montana was the best ever. Pure Iceman.

Yeah, that was Pat the Patriot, IIRC...

You are right -- Brady has been the most under-rated QB in the league (and the Pats the most under-rated team).

I wish the Patriots would go back to the old uniforms, the new ones look ridiculous. Unfortunately, now that they've won 3 SBs with them, they probably won't go back.

Except for that 30+ yard pass to Lewis the 4th quarter.

So, how did Freddy Mitchell do, and did he ever give whatever it was to Harrison like he planned?

Mitchell caught one pass from McNabb--Rodney Harrison caught two!

Mainly under-rated because there are no "look at me, look at how great I am, aren't my hands good? I rock!" guys on the team...

How about Troy Aikman? All he did was to win THREE Super Bowl rings in four years. Tom Brady has just equalled that feat. What about them?

I'm not sure what your point is, with respect to my comments. I think you've directed this to the wrong person.

It's really hard not to like the Patriots, they are a throwback. They don't necessarily dominate (each SB win was by only 3 points), but they do just enough. And with their decimated secondary, Bellicheck worked magic to keep it together.

One thing is for sure, his receivers are UNDER-rated.

I agree. I like the old logo and stuff better - the new-fangled Elvis-looking thing isn't as good, IMHO... Bring back Pat.

Didn't 3 Eagle TD passes go through Rodney's area? He looked kinda ticked on the sidelines after each one of them.

No, he was ticked that the other members of the secondary blew their coverages. They did have to put in a rookie safety after one injury and were already starting another rookie and a second year guy at the corners.

Also bring back the powder-blue Chargers uniforms.

Well the Eagles have good draft positions, $15 million in cap room and all the majors returning plus the awesome rookie O-lineman they lost to injury. They will be back in the SB next year. Looks like it's going to take them multiple tries just like the NFC Championship.

Huh?

Not fair to compare McNabb with Montana.

Isn't that what you did in your post?
