Just out of curiosity, let's talk about this:
suppose I agree that you are a responsible parent with kids in public school, sit down every night to oversee homework, pass on your values, mores and beliefs with a lot of quality family time.
Do you think this innoculates against cooperative (groupthink) learning, inflated grades, socialist textbooks, and the point of views pushed in state and national standards to which the teachers must adhere and the textbooks follow ? Even in 1st grade ? Are you with your kids 7 hours a day that they are under the influence of the teachers, curriculum, and school administrators ? No kids are subject to peer dependency ?
I don't. Those who resist are still stunted by inadequate curriculum, being held back in the name of the group, or finally, are pushed into accepting drugs (legal or otherwise)for being a nonconformist.
Yes, some do well but most sink. As a homeschooler, I don't have to undo what 7 hours a day does to my kid in public school, before my kid can go forward.

Your considered response is well appreciated. On the other hand the equally valid question is...how far will homeschooling and the "not have to undo" take them when they are no longer at home and meet the same realities you mention? Some will fare well or ok, others not so for they may be lacking in experience when confronted by the unknown.
Just as no two people are the same, there is no one way to educate.
It makes no difference that a child is "indoctrinated" by the public school or at home. What is critical is that a child learns the means to process information for themselves from a variety of views and sources and ultimately arrive at the "truths of life".
