I have had 2 such experiances. The first was in 1978 in St. Charles Mo. & the second was in Aug of 1999 in Yuma, AZ. The Yuma, sighting was a lot better.
The time was aprox 1700 hrs local Yuma time. I was exiting out of the fbo [fixed base operator] at the Yuma International Airport [where I was the flight line supervisor] (I refueled aircraft).
I saw 3 arrow head shaped aircraft at 750 feet AGL [above ground level, They came from the north from the area of the Yuma Proving Grounds. The craft were a brunt orange in color with a 3 engine "bell" housing. The center one was larger than the 2 on either side of it.
They shot an approach on runway 35 and turned to the east by south, southeast direction.
My backround is in crash, fire, rescue in the Marine Corps & my hobby is homebuilt and experimental aircraft. I had taught aircraft recogintion to my crash crew so they could be able to conduct better RESCUE OPS in the event of an emergency, with much more information.
I did make a report to the national UFO reporting center, with no reports ever came back.
At the time there was a live fire excersize going on with units from the Marine Corps [the old Hawk Missle system], Army, and Air Force being involved.
I would surmise that they had come out of the Toanahah Test Range, or Area 51 [but I cannot say for sure]. They were at least ahead of the "state of the art" aircraft by several years.

Quix note: There have been stories, rumors etc. that a number of our super advanced craft have DUAL propulsion systems--antigrav--silent mode and conventional or super advanced ramjet--forget the term--sorts of propulsion.
A very good way to keep the Soviets informed, if you ask me.
If our guys are flying advanced aircraft then people who see them need to zip their lips -- again just my opinion.
As for "little green men" I'm still hopeful you can post the sources of your information right here on this thread.

Same here. I saw a UFO and reported it, no ACK. There is probably nobody there except some guy who comes in once a month for a couple hours to put the reports in a shoebox.
