15 N. Koreans Nabbed Crossing U.S.-Mexico Border

Fifteen presumed North Korean defectors who had settled in South Korea were arrested for trying to sneak into the U.S.

The Los Angeles-based Association of People From Five Northern Provinces said on Sunday it learned that 15 North Koreans were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol as they tried to smuggle themselves into the U.S. from Tijuana, Mexico. But the association’s president Kim Ho-jeong added it remained to be confirmed whether the 15 really were defectors.

The 15, who are being held at an immigration detention center in San Diego, California, said they intended to seek political asylum in the U.S. after previously settling in South Korea. Kim Yong, the head of another defectors’ association in Los Angeles, said that under U.S. law such individuals were usually deported.

Good grief. How could Mr. Kim say this with a straight face?

Those "N. Koreans" have guts to try to cross the border illegally. They can only imagine the border they crossed in their own country. It's a wonder they were caught here.

I would suppose that if anyone had the right to claim political asylum, it would be North Koreans. Getting out of NK would be like escaping hell.

Just coming into America to do the jobs no American wants to do. Like, mass murder and terrorism perhaps?

There is no need for foreign spies here. Everything they need to know about America is published in open-source media and on the Internet, or passed along to them from diplomats, tourists, journalists, Congress-critters, etc.

I think they are either truly asylum-seekers or terrorists. I wonder how one can tell the difference.

Mexico has a very porous southern border. It's a never ending source of illegals for our country.

It has been for some time. I've taken Korean news crews to the border on several occasions. KBS ran a special on TV about a year ago.

But they had already escaped from North Korea. Apparently they didn't like South Korea either.

I am not arguing about your statement about the Mexico border being porous---of course it is, and thousands of illegals are coming in every day, and I hate it, but (monkey)

I heard on the radio the other day, that the terrorists that have either been captured or died on 9/11, have mostly come here via the northern border of Canada, and don't forget the guy that was captured on Y2k that was planning on blowing up the LA airport--he was caught at a Canadian checkpoint---
