U.S. Customs And Border Protection Plays Key Role in Securing Super Bowl XXXIX

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is providing key components of the overall security scheme at Super Bowl XXXIX being held in Jacksonville, Florida on February 6. In coordination with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, assets and personnel from CBP’s Offices of Field Operations (OFO), Air and Marine Operations (AMO), and Border Patrol (OBP) will be in place to secure the air, land and sea around the stadium and assist with securing entrances to the stadium.

Coordinating efforts of air and marine assets, personnel from AMO will be patrolling the skies above Jacksonville and will lead the effort to sort, intercept, investigate, and escort away, suspect aircraft that approach the temporary flight restriction airspace. Simultaneously, others in the National Airspace Security Operations Center near Washington, DC and the Air and Marine Operations Center in Riverside, California will be monitoring the airspace to provide real time notification of any threats to this secure area. Marine units from AMO and OBP will be responsible for patrolling the waterways protecting the different venues along the St Johns River waterfront as well as the many cruise ships moored close by that are being used as hotel rooms.

CBP's OFO has been closely involved with Super Bowl XXXIX security preparations. The CBP Area Port Director, Richard F. Quinn, is a member of the Super Bowl XXXIX Host Committee and was instrumental in assisting the Host Committee and the NFL in realizing their unique vision for Super Bowl XXXIX – the use of Luxury Cruise Ships as floating hotels.

CBP has coordinated closely with other federal, state and local law enforcement entities to insure overall security efforts are in place. CBP Officers and Border Patrol Agents will search and inspect all cruise ships upon arrival and conduct thorough inspections of all crew persons to ensure the highest security standard possible. These same Officers and Agents will participate in joint 24-hour patrols with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officers.

CBP Officers will also help support the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in the security screening efforts of commercial vehicles entering ALLTEL Stadium using CBP's Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS) and screening for radiation at ALLTEL Stadium and various other Super Bowl XXXIX venues.

Security for these events will be using some of the most advanced assets deployed today to protect our nation. Among the CBP assets that will be used during the Super Bowl are the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, PA-42 Integrated Situational Awareness Display System (ISADS) equipped fixed wing Interceptors and AS-350 Light Enforcement Helicopter. On the water will be, several high-speed Midnight Express Interceptors, the highly maneuverable SAFE Boat and a 36’ Border Patrol Dakota vessel.

"If you ask an American Citizen his or her Country of Citizenship, 90% will answer with a city or state. It only gets worst from there. "

That's no different than all the FReepers who are unable to distinguish between being a resident of a state, and a citizen of the United States.

They are unable to even grasp the concept of a person qualifying for certain rights and privileges based on residency as opposed to citizenship.

Pathetic isn't it.

Why do you oppose the idea of local police busting employers?

Uhh, you do realize that unless there're State or local laws involved, there's a Tenth Amendment issue with local police enforcing Federal laws?

It was established in a case where a New Mexico or Arizona sheriff sued the Federal government over the Brady Act's background check provision... Back in 1993 or 1994 I think.

Any excuse to blame Bush. The White House (Gonzales) already isssued the opinion that locals could enforce immigration laws. The CBP already set up training programs.

The primary mission of CBP is anti-terrorism, not keeping laborers out.

Can you tell the difference between a laborer and a terrorist?

The White House (Gonzales) already isssued the opinion that locals could enforce immigration laws. The CBP already set up training programs.

Well, apparently as long as it's voluntary and not mandated by the Federal government, it passes that precedent's test.

It will be interesting to see if there's a challenge to a local officer's arrest of a violator of a Federal law.

Based on results, DHS has done a perfect job of protecting us from terrorists.
