Security officials fear attempts on Abbas's life
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Security officials on Sunday expressed concern that terror organizations, primary the Hizbullah, may attempt to assassinate Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas [Abu Mazen] ahead of the diplomatic summit scheduled for Tuesday in Sharm e-Sheikh.

The four-way summit is to be attended by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Jordanian King Abdullah II.

MK Haim Ramon told Army Radio that terror groups are troubled by Abbas success thus far with advancing the diplomatic peace processes.

"There are significant enemies who want to get rid of Abu Mazen politically, and possibly literally as well – through a sizable terror attack. This is their way, since Abu Mazen, to them, is an enemy."

Well... Haim Ramon believes Abbas wants peace. I wonder if the terrorists really believe Abbas is serious. I'm not at all sure I do... yet. Still, talking and listening to what the man has to say can't hurt.
