A British television channel has broadcast an interview with Chechen terrorist Shamil Basayev, ignoring Russias appeal for it not to go on air. The interview was broadcast as part of Channel 4 News at 22:00 Moscow time on Thursday.
Explaining its decision to go ahead with the Basayev broadcast, Channel 4 said: We recognise, of course, that Shamil Basayev's views will be regarded worldwide as repugnant, but we reject utterly any notion that we are being irresponsible.
Excerpts of the interview were published by The Times on Thursday. Basayev took responsibility for the Beslan school hostage drama in September, and said he was planning more such operations. The notorious warlord said he regarded all Russians as his enemies, including civilians.
The interview was filmed by Basayevs entourage at an undisclosed location last month, and the video was given to a journalist in the Middle East, The Times says. This contradicts rumors that Basayev had died in a shooting. However, Russias Channel One cites an Abkhaz official as saying that Basayev was killed in January.
Russias interior ministry had requested for the Basayev interview to be withheld from broadcast, warning of the negative consequences possible as a result of this irresponsible move, which Russian diplomats have rated as informational support of terrorists operating in the North Caucasus.
Shamil Basayev, wanted by Interpol, is blacklisted by the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee.
"unbiased" journalists = Scum of the earth.
So, instead of informing the government where this terrorist slug would be, the reporter just does a "standard" interview.
Sickening.
Journalists are just as bad as lawyers, politicians, and used car salesmen.
Personally, I think they're worse. Just like all those imbedded videos of terrorists shooting at our boys and or killing Iraqi officials and the video is from the terrorist side. Wonder where some of our reporters are imbedded?
It isn't news.... It is aiding and abetting.
Scumbags.
Channel 4. The same folks who fawn over Michael Moore. Surprise.
