Some Senate observers said Byrd, elected to the Senate in 1958, intends to remain in office for the remainder of his life.

The Kleagle was born in November 1917. That means he would be 89 starting his next term, and 95 at the end of it.

He's 86.

I saw him on CSPAN the other day. His palsy shakes were almost uncontrollable. He's on his way to doddering. I don't know if he'll last until '06.

I watched Sheets question Paul Wolfowitz and team on the Senate Foreign Relations (?) Committee the other day. He was rambling on and on with boiler plate anti-Bush rhetoric, and P.W. was just sitting with his chin in his hand, obviously bored and wishing he were anywhere else but...

I think the GOP should make a concerted effort to make sure he doesn't return to the Senate. Robert Byrd is a disgrace to the Senate
