Its almost spring, and it looks like Maureen has had enough of dating the metrosexual Aaron Sorkin..

I'm surprised MoDo is hankering after a libertarian. That's even worse than lusting after a conservative! ;-)

It should be noted that several years ago, Clint Eastwood was involved in a lawsuit with a disabled woman, who got several diasability groups to go after him.
He actually talked to members of congress about getting changes made in the ADA that would help out small businesses.
The disability advocacy groups protested him, he eventually settled his case (the lawsuit), and I don't know if his proposed changed ever took place, but I do know he held a deep grudge.
It should be noted, this movie was written by him after that case ended, and the woman who sued him, thinks the movie is directed at her.

What surprises me is how little actual thinking she does in doing her column. She is obviously well educated and an excellent writer, but her ideology is unclear except that she is anti-religion and anti-commonly held mores and beliefs. She offers nothing in return other than criticisms.
Conservatives, by in large, make their decisions on tradition, customs, laws and the history of their people. Unlike some of her portrayals they are not easily swayed by charismatic figures and seldom are against real change once they understand its merits and how it fits into the history and basis of their country. The result is that conservatives everywhere have things in common. Note they do not depend on a particular ideology. A Tory in Britain has more in common with a conservative than the local MLA professor or a Maureen Dowd editorialist.
Liberals always have an ideology that they adhere to. It used to be socialistic and "share the wealth" but now is more likely some egalitarian beliefs combined with a bedrock belief in stat ism. Ditto for the libertarians, but here the ideology is anti-government and all for the individuals rights even though they collide with social practice and beliefs.
Where Dowd is in the continuum of belief is difficult to say. Perhaps, she is just a kvetch disappointed in love as many describe her.

I have a hard time just following the words in her piece, trying to figure out what she's rambling on about - Clint, movie, Rush, Bush Sr., marriage... WTF??
But it's nice to drop by this thread and see pics of the Welsh babe C.Z.J.

The culture cops are unmoved that Clint Eastwoods boxing manager, Frankie, is a Catholic who goes to Mass every day and agonizes about the morality of his actions.I would think it takes more courage to continue to live, rather then pull the plug. If Frankie went to Mass everyday, wouldn't that be the logical conclusion. Something's not right here.

The Christian right think the more you mess around with people, the better off people are. In my own experience, it's always the liberals trying to mess with me. They've made it impossible to smoke anywhere but on my own property, they moan about what I eat, and they always think that they can do a better job than I can raising my own children.
With the exception of a few door-to-door Jehovah's Witnesses, the Christians I know don't try to run my life.

"Its funny that the moviemaker stirring up the fuss is an icon of the right, a man the president's father aped when he said: 'Read my lips, no new taxes.'"
I think Mo is confusing Reagan saying "Make my day" with Bush Sr.--Eastwood didn't make "read my lips" famous. I imagine she was imitating her fave Eatwood character, the drunken hero of Unfogiven, when she wrote this.
Why is it when I think of Eastwood, the NYT, and Mo I think of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"?

Poor MoDo. An Ann Coulter wannabe but without the talent or skill.
She was selected by the Times to fill their docile Irish Catholic position after the the previous incumbent (name escapes me) left. Believe it or not, the previous one was even worse (ah yes, Quinlan or somesuch).

Folks, the most telling sentence in this piece is:
"Mr. Eastwood's critics don't even understand what art is"
Such a sweeping insult, usually made only by the truely angry and ignorant. Dowd has white hot contempt for anyone who disagrees with her and her lunch bunch of elite liberals and celebrities.
