The local government understands the financial impact of the base, and the sorry state of affairs they would be in without it. But based on the way service members are treated in the area I wouldn't shed a tear for them if it were to close.

Makes no sense to me. I lived in Kalifornia when the libs ran the military out of everything but San Diego. San Francisco is one of the only true deep water natural ports on the Coast of Kalifornia and they just couldn't stand it. Most of the bases now sit empty rotting eyesores.
