The fact that this guy wants to tell us that China is bad news should not obscure the fact that this is a horribly written piece that reflects a mind that can string words together, but cannot think.

This guy goes back and forth, all over the map, arguing with himself. He crabs about IBM selling them a PC factory, but then tells us that the best way for the communists to stay in power is to block the people's access to information. Well, which is it? Should we encourage the proliferation of PCs in China, or not? There is no better tool for spreading information around quickly than a PC. Shouldn't we hope they're stupid enough to put a PC on every desk?

The Russian dissidents had their Samizdat — illegally xeroxed books and pamphlets that they passed around. The Chinese could have the electronic version, running at the speed of light. But nooooo, we should keep PC technology out of the hands of the Chinese because of all the national security secrets in it. What a joke. The Cray XT3 we should keep secret. But PCs? Come on. The stuff is all made in China now anyway.

Then he crabs that if we don't sell them a PC factory, somebody else will. And he winds up by saying we shouldn't forget "to assist the people of China in gaining access to the idea of freedom and opposition to tyrannical rule." Idiot.

Could we get somebody in here who can think before they rant?

IBM is small potatoes.

Your criticisms are fair enough. Yet, the above from you is more illogical than anything in Paul Lin's piece.

I found the piece to be exactly accurate, especially the part about this great plan of yours to "westernize" China is actually strengthening them and weakening us. The facts are as far as you have to look.

So should this current course of the US going down in debt and the Chinese economy leading the world continue indefinitely, what is your plan B? Or do you even have one? Haven't heard it yet.
